Charlotte “CJ” Adams is kumb’s very own mascot. 13 year-old CJ is suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and is currently undergoing a tough course of treatment.
CJ’s dad Paul, better known to kumb forum members as “hammerdivone”, gave us this latest update:
Well Thursday saw us back at the hospital for an ultrasound on her tummy and more antibiotics. The good news is the scan showed nothing abnormal so most of the discomfort/pain was from the drugs and constipation.
Friday was much the same as previous, sore tummy and a fair amount of pain but by the evening she had settled down enough for Julie and I to go out for a curry with some friends. Saturday saw a little bit of improvement, with Charlotte's friend Emma popping in to see her which cheered her up. It did mean that Scott and I managed to get to the game and see the magnificent win, well okay a win!. And to top it all we met Gnome, Cheltenhammer and Chevvy in the Wakefield pre-match. Unfortunately time was against after the game so didn't manage to get back there.
Sunday was almost like a normal day for the first time in ages. We managed to get some house/garden bits done, then we took Charlotte down to Gunwharf Quay (Portsmouth) for some retail therapy. We borrowed one of their wheelchairs as she can't walk very far (her muscles have wasted quite badly over the last few weeks) and we wheeled around the shops, she had a strawberries and cream frapuccino in Starbucks and a pizza in Pizza Express to round the day off. Back home she had a bath and has crashed out for the night! Although still a little sore she said the pain has really died down today.
The week ahead sees us back down to Southampton on Wednesday for chemo, lumbar puncture and a bone marrow aspirate which will tell us the progress so far. Here's hoping!
