LLDC Offers Statue Olive Branch

Stadium owners the London Legacy Development Corporation have made the first move in an attempt to improve relations with the club.

With the relationship between the Club and the stadium owners currently strained, LLDC have attempted to improve the atmosphere between the two parties by paying for five fibre-glass busts to be erected in honour of former players around the stadium walkway – with more to come.

A spokesman for Mayor Sadiq Khan, whose office now has ultimate responsibility for the stadium, said: “We realise that attempts to ‘West Ham-ify” the stadium have only been partially successful and, without wishing to preempt the results of the upcoming court hearings, we did feel that, as the stadium owners, there might be something more we could do for our prime concessionaire. Our budgets are naturally limited, especially with the public money that has already been spent on this and on Tottenham’s stadium. However, as and when funds become available we would like to see a continuous ring of busts of noted ex-players all the way around the ground. Because of time constraints we have randomly selected Paul Ince, Frank Lampard Jr, Dimitri Payet, Joey Beauchamp and Marco Boogers as the first five players to be honoured in this way but we hope that supporters will join in with the selection process for future statues.”

Work on installing the statues is expected to commence before the end of the season with the 6th bust expected to arrive in 2020 if funds permit. So there’s plenty of time for you to have YOUR say. Who would YOU vote for to be honoured on the 6th statue? We’ll pass on all (printable) suggestions to the Mayor’s office as soon as we can.
