I first played The House of the Dead when I went to Walten on the Naze way back when I was in junior school. I spent all my pocket money on it. When I got home, I sold my Playstation to buy a Sega Saturn just to play it at home.HalfTimePie wrote:Born in 92 so I'm fully aware that I did not have it as good as most here when it comes to arcades. Re: Fondest Arcade Memory
I seriously miss Light Gun games on a big CRT TV. The Dreamcast light guns were absolutely amazing bits of kit. Didn't have that many games unfortunately, but the ones they did (HOTD2, VC2 & Confidential Mission) were all brilliant fun.
During a very brief period between jobs in 2000, I sat in my house for about 2 weeks, smoking pot, with the curtains drawn, "dual-wielding" the light guns.

Re: Fondest Arcade Memory
I used to go to Karate class at a leisure centre (Waterfront, Greenwich I believe) and they had two classic games I used to waste 10ps on waiting for my brother’s class to finish.
Sega’s Afterburner, and Konami’s Salamander.
Afterburner speaks for itself, but Salamander was such a challenging and outstanding scrolling space shooter with a plethora of power ups and bosses who would often get the better of me. I used to just want to get the Ripple Laser upgrade as quickly as I could because it would engulf the enemies onscreen and leave me well protected. I could never keep it too long.....
I was a massive Time Crisis fan. Much better game than Virtua Cop. The pedal system was quite innovative and very responsive and I enjoyed the mix of ducking for cover and killing the baddies. The PlayStation version was on point too, the pedal replaced with a button on the gun.
Capcom’s Final Fight was the first arcade beat em’ up I played. Of course it was the next level to something like Double Dragon or Vigilante with large neatly drawn sprites and unique special moves.
I also remember spending money on Street Fighter II: Champion Edition. Playing as a boss was really satisfying.
Mortal Kombat took over for a period before I understood its complete lack of depth and novelty factor. The same with Killer Instinct. Both were fun for a period but failed to have the enduring gameplay that Capcom’s Street Fighter and SNK’s underrated King of Fighters series still maintain to this day.

UTJ, if you do one thing with your PSVR, pick up a cheap copy of SW Battlefront (not the newest one) and play through the VR mission....

Better still, find a Sega Model 3 emulator and run Star Wars Trilogy through it. Not the longest game ever, but plays brilliantly on a modern PC at 1080p & higher.Hammer1972 wrote:UTJ, if you do one thing with your PSVR, pick up a cheap copy of SW Battlefront (not the newest one) and play through the VR mission....

Re: Fondest Arcade Memory
What was the western style shoot em up game that appeared in the early nineties in the arcades? It was live action footage.
I remember we used to get the train to Southend to play that in the arcade on the seafront.
I used to love going to Sega World in Leicester Square as well and playing ISS I think it was. It was winner stays on and you could end up playing on there for ages.

I remember it Ron.
The girl, twirling around the corner of the raised deck.
"There's a new band of outlaws in town.... and I'm scared!"
I remember it being proper moody acting, but cannot remember the name of the game.
Hillbilly Moonshine was always good fun in arcades - shooting the open things and them spitting water at you.
