Although this is by far the superior game, I've not seen fit to visit RDR2 since F76 was released (which is a real mess yet curiously engaging).

I was left work at lunchtime Monday with the two bob bits and had yesterday off too, being confined to indoors through fear of a public dump I cracked on with the story. Was at around 35% and now 57% and it gets truly superb. An excellent game.

Few of my mates play and our group whats app has centred around the online mode going live today and I am worried once I start playing that, the single player will get forgotten (I completed 85% of GTA 5 before online meant I never played it again). Tempted to crack on with single player before jumping online. Apparently online is a whole new story in itself.

I tried Red Dead Online last night. I can see this being really fun. Will be even better with a group of people.

There are some single player missions you can do such as escort a stagecoach. This was all good until I then discovered that enemy players can attack you. I then saw a swarm of red dots rush to my location on my map.

Items such as shotguns and clothes are a lot more expensive too. I think the sawn off shotgun was $444. Most missions only reward you with about $2. So far anyway. I haven't done many multiplayer missions yet.

Played an online mode which was basically capture the flag.

You can still free-roam too and do all the things you can do offline such as hunting and fishing etc. No sign of texas hold 'em yet though.

Had a group of us online two nights ago, great fun especially with head-sets. The missions were very funny together but the free roam is where it comes to life, I nearly had tears rolling down my face at some bits. Tried a bit yesterday on my own but nowhere near as fun.

I jumped back into single player for a while, really need to finish the story ASAP before online gets properly rolled out.

After spending some more time online, I have found it frustrating. The cost of everything vs money earned from missions is ridiculous. I am getting between $4 - $10 per mission, even some of the basic guns cost $350 - $400. I have been playing for a fair amount of time and have amassed around $120, plus when I hit $200 I have to spend all of it to set up a posse so more than four of us can play at once.

Of course, you will be able to purchase in-game gold to speed this up, which is what Rockstar want I guess.

I've played most of the side missions a few times now and getting bored of them already but hopefully they release more as this is only the beta version.

Not a patch on the story mode, nor anywhere close to what GTA V Online offered.

I visited my mate and played the first chapter on his xbox 1. Great graphics but I found the game very underwhelming - like a western copy of Skyrim.

Chapter 1 is a 'suss the game and it's controls' out kind of scenario. It gets much much better.

Hmm possibly mate. It all depends on what level he gets exposed to really. At 12 I was playing Grand Theft Auto and other shoot em ups, watching 18 rated movies and that kind of thing and turned out fine (I think). My parents were extremely liberal though. It's what you're comfortable with at the end of the day.

There's swearing, a bit of gore and obviously wild west style shoot ups. Plus you have to hunt animals and skin them. Maybe play a bit yourself before if you can?

As with everything it's a personal choice, but I think the game is not appropriate for someone as young as 12.

From what I have played, I would have had it more like a '15', can't recall anything to take it into '18' territory...

(but still wouldn't give to a 12 year old)

I wonder if the '18' is to cover the 'online aspects' ?

You've obviously not played it enough! I've found 2 decapitated and mutilated bodies in the wild with messages left by the murderer, shot peoples heads clean off with a shotgun (one guy had just his bowtie left around his neck) plus there's hillbillies in the woods who are keen on a little cannibalism, plus plenty more...

Switched it on last night after spending the night before loading it. Still on chapter 1 in the snow which is quite festive. Liking it. Still trying to get my brain around the controls. So many buttons. Great game though and I'm trying to play it around the kids and cbeebies. Not easy. I could play it through my vr headset but the kids would most likely then go and draw on the wall or trip over the vr cable.

What a stunning game, what I love in GTA and now this is the attention to detail in some of the graphics. It's just the little things that make you think, yeah this is cool.

The wanted system can be a bit annoying but its never been perfect in GTA either. eg. I accidentally jumped on the wrong horse and immediately jumped off, but I got done for stealing- this then leads to me going on a killing spree for the next 10 mins

My favourite, sometimes you just want to blast someone in the face with a sawed off shotgun because they are moaning about being attacked by a wolf.

Its an awesome game, brilliant graphics and so much to do.

But it seems so far behind in terms of a Fallout world.

Just left Chapter 2 after several weeks of hunting, challenge completing and generally exploring.

Unlike five years ago, I'll finish it this time.

Is RDR2 Online worth a crack?

Picked up a copy of this for £20 from GoG. Still need to finish every lifepath and ending in Cyberpunk first plus I have Baldurs Gate 3 waiting in the wings so I may get around to RDR2 this time next year :crossed:

I absolutely adored the main game, 2 playthroughs of 100-150 hours each. 100% completion.

I tried the online part, really didn't like it. There are micro transactions but they aren't necessary, it just saves a grind. However, I didn't get that far so take my opinion on that as useless.
