I'm a celeb and then the first 45 minutes of Full Metal Jacket, the drill Sargent is one of the best film characters out there.

Maybe it's because it's been imitated so many times since the 80's but I find it a hard watch nowadays.Clacton-ammer wrote:I'm a celeb and then the first 45 minutes of Full Metal Jacket, the drill Sargent is one of the best film characters out there.
Almost seems a parody of itself
I cringe at some of the dialogue now. I'm probably the only one I know.

Best bit of the movie the induction, Kubrick does people far better than he does big set pieces. Talking of which our Stan didn't like flying, and lived in the UK near St Albans, so the exterior battle scenes were nearly all shot at Beckton near the old gas works. A mate of mine, Trevor Southam was marketing director at Warner Brothersduring that period and when the movie came out on home video Stanley would trot around the HMV stores noting point of sale displays, and if he found that they were not prominent enough for his liking he would telephone Trev and have moan up, first time he got a call Trev coated the caller off thinking it was someone pulling his plonker........... Matthew Modine is brilliant in it, and lived in Notting Hill during the filming, he was a regular in the Uxbridge Arms.then the first 45 minutes of Full Metal Jacket, the drill Sargent is one of the best film characters out there.

Caught up with "American Hustle", genius set and costumes, a bit over written, and some over hyper performances but I really enjoyed it for what it was.
That Amy Adams looks like she knows a trick or three.

Decent movie on Sky tonight, "Lone Survivor" Mark Wahlberg never gives a poor performance and as a true story with the involvement of those whose story it tells it adds to the poignancy.

Re: What did you watch last night?
Just watched 'Remember Me ' a new 3 part drama with Michael Palin as an old fellah in what so far is an atmospheric, somewhat chilling tale which I really enjoyed.
Aunty Beeb are in good form currently on the drama front.

Foo Fighters : Sonic highways on iplayer. It's the dogs b*llocks, well worth watching even if you don't like the band. It isn't really about them but about the music scene in the cities they recorded in.

Not what you'd expect from Palin at all...
Recommended to the i-player crowd....it was genuinely suspenseful.

Homeland.
Fast becoming the best series yet.
Then caught up with the first episode of the first series of The Wrong Mans on iplayer. Had a lot of recommendations for this , so i thought i better give it a go. I must say, it was pretty good.

Re: What did you watch last night?
'Tis the season.
Kicking off my December Christmassy marathon in low-key style today with the Bo' Selecta! Christmas Special from a little over a decade ago: Ho Ho Ho Selecta! (Palmer, 2003). It's somewhat near the knuckle for family viewing though (and, at approx. 25 minutes, it's also too short) so, to both pad it out AND keep my son included, we're also watching three Christmas episodes of The Big Bang Theory. I won't be watching two sets of things every day mind you, just on those days when the official selection for that day isn't entirely family appropriate (we'll be watching Bad Santa at some point, for instance).
