Mixing It Up Nice

Post by prophet:marginal »

Been a sucker for a good mix tape/cd for donkeys, now, so here's a thread for links etc to the DJ mixes you've known and loved throughout your musical journey. Needn't be restricted to standard house/techno stuff, too.

Basically, if you know a mix, that you've given the rinse/repeat treatment, sling up a link, whether its Steam Punk or Grime, who cares?

I'll take us back to the 80's, Chicago, with an OP offering:

Radio Soulwax - Jack In The Box.

44 tracks, some of them legends of the era, beautifully mixed together by les freres Dewaele. Here's the tracklist, too, courtesy of Discogs.

That's a delightful little mix, will have to look into the Discogs list later to know what tracks what. I've been listening to a fair amount of Detroit techno mixes at the moment, some great stuff to be found on the 'tube.

Jeff Mill's Live at the Liquid Room in '95 is probably my favourite of the lot, incredible skills and an incredible set.

Coldcut vs DJ Food

Sounds of the Blue Note, Hoxton Square, early 90's.

'Round the time Mo' Wax got going.

Trip Hop, rock and shock...to get me in the mood for DJ Food & pals working it up in that cultural epicentre, The Portico Gallery SE27 tonight.

8-)

There seem to be multiple versions on YouTube, so I can't work out which to link, but Carl Cox - F.A.C.T. is a two disc mix of techno and trance that is as near perfection as I have ever heard. I saw him mixing on three decks on the Thekla here in Bristol once, and it was stunning.

Another one for which I can only find a Discogs link is Trancend, a superb trance mix from 1994: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Mixed-B ... ster/88970

And one final non-link, since you mention Soulwax: 2 many djs - As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt.2

15 or so years ago, my mates and I had tickets to see DJ Shadow at Brixton Academy.

I hadn't even noticed that 2 Many DJs were there as support. If I am honest, I don't think I'd even heard of them.

Somewhat 'refreshed', we walked into the auditorium a track or two into their 'set', which was a portable set of turntables, actually on wheels, iirc.

The first thing I remember, in that grand old hall, was the intro to Human Fly being mixed into some kind of disco beat, I looked sideways at a mate, as the rest of the track played in and realised that they already had 3/4 of the place dancing.

Found that CD a week or so later. Probably played it 1000 times!

Apologies in advance..

Eddie Halliwell. :)

Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but he was one of my favorites.
