Potential spoilers below!

——————————————————-

I’d agree that the Leia superman scene was the worst point of the movie for me. That and the John Lewis Christmas advert style bit at the end with the kid.

Overall though I enjoyed it. I thought Leia and Luke were fantastic in what will be the last we really see of them (Leia because of Carrie Fisher’s death, and Luke whilst I’m sure will feature again, it would be like Yoda or Obi Wan). Rey, Finn, Po, and Kylo Ren are all credible leads for Episode 9 now their characters have had 2 films to develop.

Whilst talking old to new, Chewie is lost without Han, they need to limit his involvement going forward unfortunately. Equally C3PO and R2-D2 are no more than cameos too, whilst BB-8 steals the show (I think he’s brilliant). Not sur if I like the Porg’s or not, but expect they’re just for Episode 8.

Major spoiler warning:
I did wonder if Luke disappearing at the end on the island actually meant that he was already dead, perhaps killed by Ben.

I think I’ll need to see it again so I can truly place it and discover things that I would have missed the first time.

The franchise has developed into farce for me.

When Yoda appeared with Luke, all I could see and hear was this:

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And the bit at the end with the kid, I was half expecting this to happen:

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm hoping the next film is a musical. It couldn't be any worse and would at least be different.

***Spoilers***

watched it last night, complete mess. I would say it’s slightly better than Clones but slightly worse than Phantom Menace.

There were 5 parts that boiled my piss and ruined the film for me

1) Leia floating through space
2) the entire New Order fleet being defeated by the rebel ship going into hyperdrive, IF IT WAS THAT EASY WHY HAD IT NOT BEEN DONE SOONER, TOTAL COP OUT!!!
3) the return of Yoda
4) the inability to have the balls to kill a main character, Leia or Finn. Why build it up as if they are going to die if you haven’t got the balls to do it... twice!
5) space Voldemort

I have no idea how critics have given this such a high score, proves their opinion should be ignored!

It did have some good bits like Mark Hamill and Po.

5/10

I am thinking of cancelling my pre booked tickets for 2 of my ankle biting Miss 'Ammers. Ive tried to get the eldest into Star Wars by taking her to TFA and R1 each Christmas, and introducing little Miss 'Ammer to TLJ. I'm having second thoughts now.

Number 2 in particular. Could've even used a small ship and been done in the first film thereby ending the entire franchise. It was ridiculous. Moving on from that why do they need someone to pilot the ship (vice-admiral purple hair), they have massive spaceships, hyper drives and god knows what else and yet auto-pilot does not exist. She was one of many pointless characters whose sole point of being in the film was to facilitate a pointless set piece. Which is in fact what the entire film is made up of. Pointless set pieces.

Also when the ship was totally destroyed by the rebel ship, how come Finn survived unscathed with nobody around him at all and then when Finn is escaping marching out of the shadows comes captain silver helmet and a phalanx of storm troopers who were in touching distance of Finn when the ship blows up. Where did they all go when the ship blew up? I almost shouted out 'bollox' in the cinema at that point.

And let's not forget milky, milky. Literally WTF???

I could go on for a very long time. It was awful.

My main problem (apart from Floaty Leia , which could have been solved by a jet floaty BB8 or somesuch) was that there was no cliffhanger , no real plotline (apart from Rey vs Ren) , to move over the next episode.

Loved how all the internet theorists were wazzed on from a height , by just no info who Reys parents were or who Snoke is.

Loved Lukes demise , I totally got the two suns moment just before it happened.

b- of a film .

I took my son and he loved it. I enjoyed it too. But it's not one of the best ones. I would give it 6 out of 10. I think kids tend to overlook some of the stuff we are picking up on.

I've seen that the previous film has turned up on Netflix and was thinking of watching it over Christmas. I loved the original trilogy, saw half of a prequel and avoided the rest, and have just seen loads of derogatory comments on here about the latest. Will I enjoy The Force Awakens?

TFA pisses all over this one. It's basically a remake of A New Hope, but none the worse for it. Rogue One is also good, probably better than Force Awakens. The Last Jedi is a pile of sh*t.

Have to agree with a lot of you. Some it made The Phantom Menance look like the Godfather 2.

If Leia had died in space, it would have been perfect. Nope, she floats back to the ship and then does practically nothing anyway and now they have to write her out again off screen.

Spaceships are like sail boats now and just chase each other slowly and people can nip off for terrible adventures on casino planets complete with naff Space horse CGI escape. The First Order has a massive fleet following that can travel faster than light. Why not just get them to jump into lightspeed, come out about a second later and head them off? Send out the smaller faster ships to keep bombing them? Absolutely ludicrous.

Why doesn't Jurassic Park woman with Molly Sugden's hair do just tell her staff what she's doing?

Finn and the girl are about to be executed when the ship gets hit. Suddenly Phasma and her troops are across the room and come marching back to them? Huh?

The Emperor rip off is killed off with no explanation of where he come from, what he was doing when the emperor was running the show etc. It's like the writer and director just could not be bothered to expand the set up from The Force Awakens and just threw it in the bin. The final film in the trilogy now only has Rey versus Ben as it's final face off.....and she beat him first up so where's the threat?

AT-AT's vs Speeders on another white planet....but this time it's salt not ice! And remember when the special effects guys sweated blood on Empire trying to make the battle on Hoth work with a load of models and basic compositing technolgy? This time with all the CGI technology we just have the speeder's getting blown up half a mile away from them. Sigh.

Hamill should have read the script and told them to poke it. Even his finale was half baked, at least have him demonstrate his power by having him destroy the AT-AT's while he's millions of miles away.

The fight against the guards was reasonably entertaining and I like Hamill's grumpy performance. The rest.....meh.

The only way they can redeem anything from this mess is by having Rey commit fully to the dark side as the new Chancellor of the FE, with Ren as her bitch. And the complete destruction of those f*cking whiney Rebels once and for all, including the two robots.

I'm genuinely surprised by the amount of vitriol this is receiving on here.

Sure there were some missteps but it was a Star Wars film and a bloody enjoyable on at that. All opinions are valid of course, but anyone comparing this to AOTC just baffles me.

Clones was bad, Last Jedi worse. I've seen some cack movies this year, but Jedi was the worst by some distance.

Yes. I thought it was utterly awful.

The he said/she said b*llocks that supposedly explained Luke & Ren's conflict was just excruciating, on top of all the other stupid plot contrivances. Why also introduce 3 new serious Deus Ex Machinas at this stage:

a) Light speed ships can destroy major bad guy ships.
b) Force sensitive characters can have coherent telepathic conversations with each other.
c) Force sensitive characters can do Astral projection.

Each one of those 3 new contrivances absolutely shits on everything else that's gone on in all the previous movies.

This also ignores all the other stupid stuff in the film:

a) The sub-GCSE politicking. I thought the "Poor people good, Rich people bad" politics in Elysium were clumsy, but the stuff in this was worse.
b) Why did they go to that casino (WTF?) to find a cryptologist, not get to him, then find an alternative cryptologist where they were jailed? If that was a clever plot twist or something, why bother? It added nothing beyond showing us how evil rich people are by having the casino.
c) The slow-motion spaceship race was just beyond comprehension.
d) Why was the mysterious Snoke geezer so easy to kill? Not much of a force expert if he gets stitched up like that.

Fair enough. I won't respond to all of those, as I don't disagree with a lot of it.

I just felt that as a SW fan there was more than enough good stuff to make up for the dodgy bits.
