Re: Little things in life that make you smile
I had to take my car to the garage today for the latest episode in the epic saga Why Doesn't My Air-Con Work Properly? As a result I had an hour or so to wait for the results of their investigations, and for the first time in years I was without wife or children.
So I went to a local woodland and went off-road on a road bike (which I'd brought with me in case I needed to leave the car all day) through grassy fields and along rough gravel tracks. One slow puncture, a sore arse and loads of fun. This is what sets us apart from the lower beasts, our ability to wilfully do stupid things just for the hell of it.

....is what I read. Fair play to you, its what reminds us we are lower beasts ourselves.southbrishammer wrote:I had to take my car to the garage today for the latest episode in the epic saga Why Doesn't My Air-Con Work Properly? Re: Little things in life that make you smile
Finished making this today. It probably won't make sense unless you're geeky too, but I designed it to kind of look like a utilitarian early 70's British amp, as some weird kind of tribute to Billy.....

MB - Bonzo is a thing of beauty. V impressed to have the ability to build it - is it all built from scratch, or do you pick the best parts from other amps (e.g. Speaker comes from a Marshall) and assemble it to suit your playing style? Also, is it a good old fashioned valve amp?
Cheers

I ran in a 10k race today and it was wonderful - ambling around some fine countryside in Hampshire and the support of volunteers and the residents in Hook was great, despite the fact that I probably delayed a few Sunday lunches - they were really uplifting and gives you faith in mankind.

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
I was running cricket practice for my U12's on Friday. We were playing a game but they were only allowed to score on the off side, so cover drives and cuts etc. Not the easiest of shots to master for them.
I might add that the last cricket game I played was 30 years ago at school, and i was crap at batting. All my knowledge is learned watching the game and listening to TMS.
So one of my lot was taking ages to to sort out their batting gloves (we play hardball) so I strode over and grabbed their bat, shouting for the bowler to carry on. The lad was more than fast enough to cause me some trouble if it hit my shin or crown jewels. All my authority could have been wiped out in a single moment.
Thankfully the cricket gods made him bowl it in right in the slot, and I smacked it through the covers like James Vince when he doesn't nick to 2nd slip. I did an internal fist pump and retired after 1 shot, managerial reputation up one notch higher.
The downside is one of the club players saw my David Gower like elegance and asked if I'd like to play for the 3rd XI this week.
Against grown adults! Who could hurt me! He obviously has no idea I can only beat up kids.

Yes, it's valve, it's much easier to make something that sounds decent with valves. All made from scratch as much as possible.
Generally I start with a blank piece of paper and draw out a circuit that I think will make the sound I have in my head, then I solder all the bits together and then knock up the metalwork and woodwork. Probably takes a week to make one, but I have to squeeze in an hour here and there whenever I get free time, so it's normally three or four months in real time.

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
Cheers MB - it's the sort of thing that I'd like to have a go at making ... I play guitar but have absolutely zero engineering knowledge about what makes a good sound. My son has a Vox amp, which I really like the full sound of.

If you ever get round to making one, give me a shout and I can put together a kit or something, and give you whatever help you might need.
Incidentally, I've already got the panels made for the next one. It's called the Pablo

Nice MB, a bit reminiscent of WEM kit.
