Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.
WestHamByTheSea wrote:Not a great shot I know (it was perched atop a 100 ft pylon), but absolutely buzzing to see a peregrine falcon just 100 yards from my house. I've seen them a few miles away on the Jurassic Coast, but never this close to where I live. It stayed there for about 30 mins being heckled by gulls before swooping down and flying off across the bay.
EDIT: sorry don't think the pic's worked, but anyway; seeing an animal like that from my suburban garden was a rush nonetheless!
Ironically, whbts, they're probably safer in town, away from game keepers and the pigeon racing mob.( The resident pair at the old quarry behind my last place were often subject to poison attempts).
I love raptors, here in ,an albeit small and leafy, town I see plenty of buzzards riding the thermals, and these last two years the red kites from wales have got this far East and taken up residence a mile or so out of town.
Given the massive decline in the rabbit population through this hemorrhagic disease, could be some of the true hunters ( peregrine, Merlin, hobby etc) will move more towards the domestic garden, whereas the carrion
Eaters ( buzzards etc) will suffer.

It's equally likely they've gone up the M40 from Stokenchurch, there was another release site nearby. Driving along the top of the Chilterns between High Wycombe and Stokenchurch can be like a scene from The Birds.

Did this a couple of years ago, annoyingly my Monday night football is organised through a Facebook page so have to login every week to accept the invite.

We get the occasional one here, by Kempton Park.
Loads down here in Hampshire - there are a few that can be seen regularly flying over the parks here in the middle of Basingstoke and I know of other Kumber ageing them further south towards Winchester and the New Forest. Wonderful birds.
Been toying with the idea of greeting a 'private reg' for the midlife crisis motor...headed to the DVLA site where you can buy them and after looking for my initials etc I then found a combination which could easily be read as YOUR MUM for a mere £400. I'm so tempted!

Deleted mine a few years ago. The drama is at insane levels after Brexit apparently and I'm glad I don't have to witness that ****. My missus is still on it and get dragged into it every now and again, to which I just sit, smile.
