Congratulations !Rocket wrote:I thought I bumped into Bill Gardner on the South Bank today, but he said he wasn't him. I don't know Bill so would understand if he lied if he didn't want to be hassled. Whoever it was was definitely a Hammer as he had some sort of West Ham hat on.

I had an Xmas double - last Wednesday I walked past ex Stoke and Pompey player and Alex's dad, Mark Chamberlain at Port Solent. Then on Friday, whilst at the Norton Canes service station on the M6 toll road, I nearly knocked Shaun Keaveney flying as we negotiated a rather busy corridor.

Tony Cottee coming out of Stratford station on Friday evening. The highlight of a dismal evening!

Mick Jones of The Clash and Big Audio Dynamite. He was going down the escalators at Notting Hill Gate and I was going up. I resisted the urge to sing:
"You see the rate they come down the escalator, now listen to the tube train accelerator"
I did a double-take, thinking "Blimey, that old bloke looks like Mick Jones ..... f*** me that is Mick Jones!". I didn't realise I was starring and he smiled and nodded back at me and said hello. Top fella. Looking old now though (just like all of us).

Alan Brazil in Canary Wharf yesterday. Didn't look great, hard to believe he was a professional athlete 20 or so years ago

Saw him in 2010 after the Scottish Cup final, the next morning. Never seen a bloke look so red in the face in my life.ThreeSixes wrote:Alan Brazil in Canary Wharf yesterday. Didn't look great, hard to believe he was a professional athlete 20 or so years ago
Should have put him on my celebrity death race really.

You must live in Heathfield? That's where Joe is from, and I'm lead to believe, still lives. COYQEast Sussex Hammer wrote:Joe Marler England Rugby player in our local waitrose

Well done Bromley lives literally around the corner although he has just sold his house so not sure where he is moving to. Often seen around town as is Jane Torville who is also a local and absolutely tiny.

Re: Today i bumped into...
Met Tony Cottee briefly on Friday night in Leigh.
Nice chap, told him my first game was 3-2 v Forest in 88, the night of his far post scissor kick, he asked what was better, his or Carroll's - I said to get a photo first then we both said "Carroll's" at the same time and laughed.
I then went on to piss him off about 20mins later by having a friendly pop at him about joining Everton.
Didn't go down well, despite my assurances that it was indeed tongue in cheek and an apology. I imagine it hit a nerve a bit as he's probably genuinely received some stick in the past and he was convinced it was a dig.
Oh well.
