Re: The dinner threadHome Made Healthy Green Veg and Barley Thick Spicy Soup.
Reason: I'm not getting enough green veg, it's low calorie and I saw some pearl barley, lentil and vegetable Mix in Waitrose that looked nice. How to: Pour half pearl barley into pot with 2 1/2 pints of boiling water water plus a pinch of salt and a tablespoon full of garlic powder. Also add two stock cubes (low salt) and a generous amount of pepper. Add a Table spoon of hot sauce that you like ( I used Encona - I didn't want it massively hot, just to add some spice) and then a tablespoon of paprika. Add a squirt of tomato puree. Cook for 10 mins. Add Green veg cut finely - for me it was Mange tout and small brussels. Cook slowly for another 10-20 mins (depends how you like your veg - longer for softer) and then let it stand for 5 mins so the barley et al is thoroughly cooked and a lot of the water is absorbed. Reheat for 1 min on high. Serve up hot. Result: low calorie, healthy soup full of fibre, vitamins and some minerals. Mind was bloody gorgeous and I have enough left over for tomorrow

Mashed together in a bowl and bound with an egg. Slowly fried in a pan on a low heat. Finished of with sliced gherkins, tomatoes, green salad and curried mayo inside wholegrain baps.
