Little things that irritate you

The L1A1 SLR was that powerful that once hit it would knock you off your feet and throw you so far back you wouldn't even have be conceived.
Forget all that nuclear weapon bollox, the SLR was the reason the Warsaw Pact never ventured Westward.......

I was once told by a bootneck that the reason why we moved from a 7.62mm to 5.56mm had very little to with ammo loads. More a case that if you were shot with an SLR is was game over and all your mates would carry on without you. With the SA80 you more likely to wound so their mates would come and help you, at which point you could pick them of as well.

My 8 year old lad took his first dive tonight and successfully conned the ref into giving an injury time penalty. Beaming with pride.

That was a twitter post from a liverpool fan , what a ****

That'll be the lad's lifetime greatest achievement.

It's the office "bring your kids to work" day. Which is fair enough, sort of. Or would be, if they weren't all sitting at their dad's desks, shouting and screeching. If I was actually trying to do some work, I'd be highly annoyed.

I thought this was something from TV sitcoms. Companies actually do this?

Just rename it 'Zero productivity day'.

I'm tempted to find a meeting room (never a challenge on friday) and hide out all day.

Walk round the office humming the tune to Jim'll Fix It. They'll probably ask you to work at home the rest of the day.

Someone's letting their kid make "NEE-NAW NEE-NAW" ambulance noises. He's just sitting there, letting his shitbag jabber noisily.

I'm going to IM him in a second with a thinly-veiled threat.

We have this around Christmas Eve. We have a bloke here who is the biggest perv ever and they let him dress up as santa etc.!

I'd rather bring the in-law's spaniel to work, at least he is quiet and more stress relieving than noisy uncontrollable kids.

Christ, they've resorted to giving the kids a "tour" of the office, pointing out things like "here's where the software is written, this team operates it" etc. All they've actually arranged is a bouncy castle and some pizza. That isn't going to entertain a bunch of attention-deficient 5 year olds for 8 hours.

I believe that's also the reason for FMJ (full metal jacket) bullets. Unjacketed rounds mushroom inside the body and take a large portion of internal organs with it as they exit, a FMJ round stays more or less bullet shaped on the way through and is more likely to injure rather than kill.

My place had this the other day (UK Ministry so being "right-on"), in fairness they seemed to arrange it quite well. There was a conference room booked with games and such-like that the parents could take the kids to for most of the day. Most parents I encountered took their kid to their desk and introduced them, did a couple of quick jobs, then buggered off back to the games room.

Ours has been a complete embarrassment, and I'm delighted that I didn't bring my 7 year old (or 4 week old) with me, knowing full well it would be a boring disappointment for them.
