£1531 for an annual renewal with my current insurers. Exact same cover from another insurer, £458.

Shysters the lot of 'em.

Interestingly mine came through a week or so ago and had increased from £264 to £388.

I went on Gocompare and found my insurer was offering me the same policy for £320 (the cheapest was £318)

I called them up and asked why, they checked a few details and offered it to me for £319.

Worth the phone call, but annoying I had to call them in the first place!
If the Watchdogs had any teeth they would make it illegal to not offer existing customers the best available deal. The ******** companies just add on a wedge and hope nobody notices.

Seems like a nice chap but his music is dull as dishwater. James Blunt with tattoo's.

Mine gives me that look sometimes, what then tends to happen is we talk about it several times and then I go and do it. She is well aware that I've broken my neck in the past and have three fused vertebrae in my neck, for some reason she thinks this means I should take it easy. Mind you she has been widowed once before so I guess her worrying is understandable.

At the moment I'm aiming to go back to gliding, I'll need to re-solo as it is a few years since I last flew, she keeps on about how dangerous it is because they don't have engines - despite me pointing out how few gliding fatalities there are each year. Image

On a simliar theme to the car insurance posts...

My wife needs to extend the lease on her flat as it has under 70 years left. Asked the freeholder's management company for a quote and they said £13k. It took a 5 minute phone call asking if that was their best price for them to knock £1250 off

Count yourself lucky. My mate's place had under 45 years. It was over 20 grand to renew it.

GCRO

Whole system is a rip off mate. Of course you have to have a solicitor to do this for you so that's another grand. I would always go for freehold properties for this very reason

It amazes me that people buy leaseholds.

Totally agree, it's another racket along with insurance. I can't for the life of me see how they can justify the charges they do for leases.

When you read the terms and conditions of a lease, you'll see that you're just another glorified renter. As you say, freehold is the way to go, every time.
