Little things that irritate you

Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

Horse ****

Why doesn't the owner/rider of the horse have to pick up the mess they leave on the roads, like a dog owner has to?

They should be made to carry bin bags around with them, to collect the waste.

i just watched the night manager and they seem to have used english accented actors to play most of the roles for all the foreign parts with crappy accents

a great example of this is Green Street and the lead role

I have to say, I remain baffled why this is still allowed when dogs are rightly barred from parking their breakfasts on the pavement.

I've got exactly the same thing at the moment. Recently changed over to Three and can't get rid of the thing.

I am actually considering cancelling my contract.

Agreed, although oddly it can work sometimes. Apparently for The Wire, English actors like Dominic West and Idris Elba were used partly because the Baltimore accent was so uniquely difficult for some American actors to master (somewhere between a Southern US accent and a New York one), and the British guys coming in had no preconceptions of it.

Developing on that...when they have an over-dubbed translation of a foreign language in a documentary and the English translation is done in a silly approximation of the original language. Get it on things like Nazi Megastructures... sounds like someone off Allo Allo doing a Hitler impression.

When Hugh Laurie did House, many Americans who had never heard of him refused to believe he was English, his accent was that accurate.

On actors and accents, irc two US-made TV series in the 80's, one about the Jewish revolt against the Romans at Masada and another about the Holocaust in which the Jewish characters were all American and the Romans and Nazis were played by British actors. Wasn't a bad casting move in terms of reinforcing cultural differences I suppose, but maybe there was a bit of 'imperialist' dogma going on there.

It's not that difficult. Just pretty much replace the T sound in every word that should have it with a D instead.

It's like doing a south african accent - just pronounce every vowel as if it was an 'e'.

And finishing every sentence with "eh".

If you need to do an Australian accent, just end every sentence with a question mark?

I was close to quoting both of those (Diafra Sulko) for the same reason.

On that subject, why have Man Utd Fans suddenly got all precious about being called ManUre? Apparently, it has some tenuous link to a Munich air disaster insult, but its been banded about for years.
Whatever... :fsake:

It's not a south Boston one that's for sure, but in his defence its not much better than Benedict Cumberbatch's take on the same accent in Black Mass. Which is the real take on the fall of the James "Whitey" Bulger and his crew. I've worked with Cumberbatch on Stuart a Life Backwards, and he is a gifted mimic, so that south Boston twang must be ****ing hard to get. Mark Wahlberg is from there, so he had it down pat, listening to him makes Ray's take so much the worse.

This apparently is the archetypal South Boston accent ...

Nearly all the people in this photo, except for the little old lady.

Bless her right down to her little cotton socks.

It's a modern day think I know. But I want to jump off.

And you know what..........that little old lady will have the best memory of the event of them all. Because she actually went to experience it, rather than eyeing the event up through a tiny hole in a f"cking phone.

It should be made legal to punch in the back of the head anyone who holds up a camera phone at a concert or football match.
