Company merger means payday has been realigned, and I effectively got an extra week's salary today. AND I got my full bonus.
Yes, it's all going in pensions & savings.

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
My missus daughters both made me howl with laughter today. Youngest one is 17 and doing driving lessons and also looking for a car. There was a Nissan Micra for sale down the road and she messaged me to go and have a look. I took the youngest daughter with me and off we went. As we got nearer I pointed it out to her and said “there it is”. It was purple. She looked at me and perfectly straight faced said “for f***’s sake, it looks like a pedophile’s car”. I didn’t know they drove specific cars.
This is what it looked like …
Second daughter was out tonight and wanted a lift. I asked where she was going and she said she was going to the Bierkeller which is a German themed bar. I said had she been there before to which she replied, “oh yeah, it’s really good. They’ve got an Ump-Lumpa band and everything”, to which I replied "A ****ing Umpa-Lumpa band? What you mean they've got orange midgets in a band?" She looked at me as if I had two heads. "What the f*** are you on about? You ain't half a dickhead sometimes" she said. Me? Righto

Sitting there with my old man, drinking a bottle of rum based drink, then a few whisky's whilst watching The Great Wall and The Mummy ( most recent versions) on our TV and both of us being old and just enjoying the films, our critique of both and our company.
I know a lot of people who's fathers have passed and I am so lucky.
The word is Blessed - not in a religious way. I know people who would pay their life savings to do what I do: I am so lucky.

WHUI - similarly, my dad and I spend time together watching sports and don't really say much but don't really have to, we just enjoy each other's company. I also have a 98 year old Grandad who I do the same with - taking him to watch his beloved Portsmouth FC in a couple of weeks. It would only be made better if my 20 yr old son could make it, as he and my Grandad get on brilliantly and it is wonderful to watch the two of them chat together - a couple of weeks back my son and one of his pals, who has a refurbished Mk2 Escort, took my Grandad out for a spin, as he'd had one back in the 70s.
I know what you mean about feeling blessed and enjoying the time you do have together.

I keep seeing mk2 escorts and I am developing an irrational desire to obtain one, even though I have nowhere to park or work on it.

Not just my father but my family in general. I've taken lot of them for granted over the last few years and in the last few months have nearly lost all of them due to my erratic behaviour.WHU Independent wrote:Sitting there with my old man, drinking a bottle of rum based drink, then a few whisky's whilst watching The Great Wall and The Mummy ( most recent versions) on our TV and both of us being old and just enjoying the films, our critique of both and our company.

Has taken the shock of my wife saying she's leaving (she didn't in the end) to give me the kick in the arse that I needed make some long overdue changes and fix some broken relationships with others in the family.
I can't really believe it's taken me until I am 43 to realise this but you get one life and often one chance to be with the people that mean the most.

Can only agree.
One of it pleasures (I understand,) of old age is to have good memories of your past generation, and the love and companionship of the future generation. My behaviour has screwed all this irrevocably, no one to blame but myself. Indy,WG are bang on , bury your differences while you still have the chance.

Just ran past the river and there’s a classic car meet in the car park by Walton Bridge. Some lovely cortinas, consuls, escorts thunderbirds and vintage 60s mustangs lined up, along with the inevitable 03 plate v8 mustangs & Focus STs.DasNutNock wrote:I keep seeing mk2 escorts and I am developing an irrational desire to obtain one, even though I have nowhere to park or work on it.

It must be something about Mk2 Escorts - seeing the excitement of my Grandad getting in one again, and the excitement of my lad and his mate restoring it. There is a transport festival every year here in Basingstoke and the highlight is always the 60's/70's car clubs that turn up - Reliants, Escorts, Minis, Maxis, Cortinas, Rovers etc. They are always in immaculate condition and an obvious pride and joy to their owners. Wonder if we'll ever see the same thing in the future .... 'Hyundai Santa Fe Owners Club', anyone?DasNutNock wrote:Just ran past the river and there’s a classic car meet in the car park by Walton Bridge. Re: Little things in life that make you smile
My old feller is getting very alzheimery, and my memory is bollixed. We have far more interesting conversations than ever.
Dad : "Do you remember that thing that happened with that stuff?"
"No"
"Good, weren't it?"
"Dunno".
Me: "Did you watch the Liverpool game?"
"Yeah. What happened?"

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
Yeah saw one today, really good nick. Not sure where it was going or coming from but it was in really good condition. I used to own two back in the 80s and have fond memories of working on them of a weekend with ease.DasNutNock wrote:I keep seeing mk2 escorts and I am developing an irrational desire to obtain one, even though I have nowhere to park or work on it.

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
I tried to convince my youngest that a Mark 1 escort would be an ideal first car for him due to the classic insurance. He soon put me in my place. I have another two and a half years to convince him - otherwise he is having a fiat scudo like his older brother (also much cheaper insurance than a car for a new driver).DasNutNock wrote:I keep seeing mk2 escorts and I am developing an irrational desire to obtain one, even though I have nowhere to park or work on it.

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
I made a roll cage for my mates mk2 last year, he bought a shell and put a new engine in it, looked the nuts when it was done.
Have to say, as a project I'm very tempted to get a mk1.

^^^^^ Not a pop at you, but I wish people would stop butchering these old Fords. I actually can't see the point. I'd much rather one as original as possible, but as ever, they are becoming as rare as hen's teeth due to said butchering.
