Little things in life that make you smile

Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

The Deer Hunter can lay claim to being one of the best films of it's generation. So yes.

The look on the face of some hopeful on Antiques Roadshow as the piece of tat they brought along is valued at £10. Through gritted teeth they feign joy but you know they were expecting a grand or more.

The fact that, despite being started in the same month, the "Little things that irritate you" thread has 5 times as many pages as the "Little things that make you smile" thread...

It's also funny the other way, when they are told it's worth a small fortune and they say something along the lines of "oh that's wonderful, but i'd never sell it anyway so the value is immaterial." Yeah alright you'll be down Sotherby's first thing in the morning!

In Vision Express yesterday with the missus, she was having a dilated exam for her retina so needed someone with her as vision goes haywire for a while after one of them. The young assistant sat her down and explained that the effects of the drops would kick-in in about 10mins or so. She explained that I’d need to be on hand afterwards to drive her home etc. After this thorough explanation, the young assistant turned round and promptly walked into a pillar that was in the middle of the room. I nearly laughed my cock off. The poor assistant went bright red and promptly sat down, trying to cover her embarrassment. I thought I was going to have a coronary.

They are indeed. I've had them twice and on bright sunny days they are absolute killers.

I had them several years ago. The ex came with me to bring me home. Went back again a couple of weeks later on my own being led to believe I was going to be given/told the results.

"Oh no Mr. Eggs! It's another test" Said the nurse.

A very slow, painful drive home took place!

I'll have a look for that, then. As far as I'm concerned, you can't watch Robocop too many times.

I know you shouldn't say not nice things about kids - but on this occasion it's worth it. One of my female mates has posted pictures from one of those crappy generic soft focus photo shoots of her grand daughter. You know the type, with pointless props, flowery garlands in the hair, that sort of thing - and reading the comments constantly stating how beautiful she looks, when in reality, the poor kid looks like it's face has been on fire and someone has put it out with a shovel, along with much over-use of props in the pictures I've found quite amusing...

Using the hand dryers in the West Ham bogs and trying not to think about Tommy Cooper.
