Re: Little things in life that make you smile
Another evening on the beer with Mr Parkes & Son, the big man holding court and telling some brilliant stories about his career.
New windows and composite front door they’ve fitted don’t half look nice, too. Ought to make the gaff a bit less draughty in the winter, unlike the ones they removed which didn’t fit properly and boasted single glazing about a nanometre thick. Imagine they’re a bit more secure - you could have broken the old ones with a toffee hammer.

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
Loads of bats about this evening when I was walking my dog. I like bats, they fly around like giant moths, this way and that at 100 mph, not pretending to look cool, just doing their thing. If I wasn't human I'd like to be a bat, guided by my own radar. Mrs SBH would say (albeit taxonomically incorrectly) they are rats with wings. She hates bats. Still, we've been married 12 years, so there must be something other than bats keeping us together.

Bats are awesome!
Don't get many around here but would love to see more if possible.

A Lá aster and a Hurricane flying over my gaff yesterday. The sound of a Merlin engine is like no other engine and it always makes me smile like a kid when I hear one.

Cleaning, clay barring, polishing and waxing the car. Shining like a conker now. Couldn’t be arsed to do the interior though as it was about 45c inside.

Same here. Next door neighbour did a double take as he walked passed and commented on the shine. Good job he didn't see the inside.DasNutNock wrote:Cleaning, clay barring, polishing and waxing the car. Shining like a conker now. Kicking myself for only doing one layer of wax, now. Should have gone all out & done 5. Did that on an old MGF I bought for a song years back, and it stayed clean for months.
Need to refurb the steering wheel leather, which has faded badly. Any suggestions? Tempted to use black shoe polish. There's also a little green mould in the sills - f*cked if I can work out how to dig it all out.

Going to watch my 98 year old Grandad play bowls this afternoon. He was in his element and showed up some of the youngsters (those that were in their 70s) in not only his ability and the accuracy of some of his shots, but also the way he would just bend down and pick up the pick up the bowls from the ground, whereas a few of the others used some sort of litter picking style contraption. They all know him and he is a popular chap - it was a pleasure to see him play. I am a v proud grandson.

A decent leather degreaser and cleaner should do the trick on the wheel, might need a restoring cream also. Stay away from normal cleaning stuff as it'll discolour and stain even more.DasNutNock wrote:Kicking myself for only doing one layer of wax, now. Should have gone all out & done 5. When I got mould on my canvas roof and sills over the winter on my old TT I used a mixture of warm water and Johnson's baby bath with a soft long haired brush and toothbrush in smaller grooves/areas. Seemed to do the trick.....and smelled nice also

I use the Autoglym leather cleaner/care products, only because it came with the car, I'm sure other specialised products would do just fine.

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
Finding one (of two) massive spiders dead inside my underpants that I dropped on the floor last night before I went to bed.
Let that be a warning to the other big ****er that is leaving annoying cobwebs all over my gaff.

My wife kept going on about how her sister would be earning more than me once she got her new job! Two weeks into the job and she got sacked!
