Little things in life that make you smile

Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

A random memory of my dad from the late 70s. He took me to a motorbike scramble in a field somewhere in mid-Essex. My mum had got a recipe for this new food called "pizza" and made us one to take with us. My dad called it "pitt-za", he was never very cultured. I ended the day covered in mud and deafened by 50cc scrambler bikes. I loved every second.

Also, seeing two bats flying around our close tonight, the first I've seen this year. I love bats, although I don't know why.

For every 10 haircuts you don't pay for you can afford another pair of those orthopaedic shoes

Chocolate fudge cake with clotted cream, tiramisu, chocolate crepes with vanilla whipped cream, Krispy Kreme donut samples at Costco.

[quote="southbrishammer"] My mum had got a recipe for this new food called "pizza" and made us one to take with us. My dad called it "pitt-za", he was never very cultured.[\quote]

My dad's reaction to pizza was to ask the waiter why he was being asked to pay a fiver for cheese on toast. When the poor bugger explained that it was pizza, my dad (as a proud Welshman) told him the Welsh also have their own name for it, a rarebit, and it still was't worth a fiver. I think he had steak and chips in the end :D

Has anybody else noticed that the ‘little things that irritate you’ thread has over 4 times the number of pages as this one!!!!! Both threads are pretty much the same age, as well.
We really must be a miserable bunch of moaners.

The “irritate” thread is a useful way to vent every day annoyances that probably don’t need to be discussed in every day life. The “smile” thread, I like to think, is shorter because we’re disinclined to appear boastful or overly proud.

Quite Interesting Verified account

When HMS Dolphin stopped in Tahiti in 1767, the sailors found that local women were prepared to exchange sex for iron nails. The Captain ordered a stop to the trade as the significant loss of nails from the ship had massively compromised its structural integrity.
