Don't they still need to maintain the training ground at Rush Green? Would also assume they have some input at the OS.JerseyHammer wrote:Do the groundstaff / pitch maintenance team move to the new stadium or are they made redundant?

If they wouldn't commute a couple extra miles up the road they deserve to be sacked.I'd imagine they're given the opportunity to move to a new job there and if they say no, then they are made redundant.
Re: Things you've always wanted to know......
Guitar prodigy Shuggie Otis (real name: Johnny Otis Jr.) wrote this at the age of 17. Otis wrote it for his girlfriend describing the feelings evoked by "Strawberry Letter 22," the title indicating the hopes of another letter.nedgray wrote:Just heard the song " Strawberry Letter 23" by Brothers Johnson on the radio just now.
Why isnt it called "Strawberry Letter 22" as that is what they sing in the lyric?
It is commonly believed that she wrote to him on strawberry-scented paper but Otis told Spinner in a 2013 interview that the song has nothing to do with the smell of strawberries. "What I pictured when I was writing that song, was a girl handing a guy a pink envelope," he explained. "A love letter. The guy and the girl had written each other 22 letters so far. And the 23rd one he writes is a song. But no scents."

Icebergs are melting at an alarming rate, for years it's been blamed on global warming, but kumb has found the real science behind why the polar caps are getting smaller.
The salt in the sea. Good work that man!!

Why in the front cab of a district line train do some appear to have a plank of wood across the front screen?
I'm guessing it's some sort of reinforcement of some kind but why don't they all have them and why isn't it in both front windows of this is the case

What is that obelisk-like thing between the track and the wall as the line goes past the Chadwell Heath training ground west-bound? Was still there about 10 years ago.

I does, I does, but often teach in the UK as well as abroad. And thanks JBB but that picture ain't it. It is (was?) an obelisk, like a small version of Cleopatra's Needle and I used to see it when commuting from Romford. I've posted about it several times on here over the years but no takers. I can't be the only one what's seen it! It sort of leans away from the wall of one of the training ground buildings into the fence at the top of the railway embankment. It isn't very tall. Maybe a neglected war memorial?

I got this one, I'm a district line driver!!whuben wrote:Why in the front cab of a district line train do some appear to have a plank of wood across the front screen?

That piece of wood is actually used for lifting the train shoes off of the tracks if the need arises, so as to clear snow or debris or such like. They are kept stored in the front cab for safety.
When not in use drivers tend to have them in front of them to either;
1: use as a stand for a cup of tea or a drink
2: lodged in front of the driving console so to keep the front door firmly shut. This is because the doors are old and bent and have gaps so wind flying in through them. Keep it wedged shut so that doesn't happen.

Those green boxes you get at the end of the street which house all the electrical wires normally have POST NO BILLS in white written on them. What's that all about?

Ta JBB! Think you've cracked it. That sounds exactly right. Remnant of an old railway toll system. Honestly this is something I've 'always wanted to know'!Johnny Byrne's Boots wrote:Could it be one of these?
