Anyway, I want to know why you don't hear people saying "oompah, oompah, stick it up your jumper" any more.

Re: Things you've always wanted to know......
Come to think of it, I remember a kid at school telling us the TV license people had been round to his gaff and busted his parents while they were watching Russ Abbot's Madhouse. Can anyone think of a more pointless and futile reason for getting a £500 fine and a police record?DasNutNock wrote:They had a list of addresses where people hadn't bought a license, and drove past them to see if there was an aerial at the top. Which is still how they do it in 2019.

When I was 18/19 I bought my younger brother a freeview box from Argos. They asked for my name and address at the checkout, saying it was for the warranty. About six months later I got a letter saying I needed to buy a tv license which of course was b*llocks.

I wonder if they’d be able to get away with stuff like that any more, deliberately lying to frighten people into contributing to Adam Woodyatt’s pension.RichieRiv wrote:The whole detector van was bull**** designed to scare people into buying a TV licence.

So using the old 'bent up metal coat hanger out the back of the TV is quite safe?DasNutNock wrote: Which is still how they do it in 2019.
