Thing with that is - if they genuinely did feed the ball straight down the middle, there'd be no advantage to the team feeding the scrum. It's not like a line-out where you can dictate how far the ball travels to get your team the advantage - both hookers in the scrum are lined up and thus would have a completely equal chance of winning the ball.

In fact, you could argue that it'd be a disadvantage to the feeding team because the opposing SH is free. From rugbyworld.com:

- The scrum-half must put the ball in straight to the scrum, but they are allowed to align their shoulder to the middle line of the scrum.
- This means they are putting the ball in a shoulder’s width towards their own team’s side of the scrum.
- So the ball has to be put in straight, but rather than being put in down the middle of the tunnel it is put in slightly towards the scrum-half’s own team.
- The referee no longer signals when the scrum-half should put the ball in.
- The aim is to promote a fair contest for possession while also giving an advantage to the team putting the ball into the scrum. In most cases the opposition will have infringed for that team to be awarded the put-in.

Look at how the front row interlocks

The hooker of the side with the put-in is nearer to his scrum half than his opposite number is, so the ball will get to him first and thus he'll get first go at hooking it back, even if it's put in straight.

Ears, nose & throat (ENT) are all closely connected.
Perhaps when you clean your ear (which you know you shouldn't do!), you're stimulating a shared nerve pathway, type thing?

Did anyone else have issues with their DAB signal yesterday, literally couldn't pick up anything, but today it's fine?

Probably been asked a hundred times before.....

What do the icons next to the topic headings in each sub-forum index mean? Like "scrolling text", "scrolling text with star", "static text with arrow" etc etc....

Scrolling text means someone is reading the topic. Static text means nobody is reading the topic. Static or scrolling with a star in the corner means you've posted in that topic. Text with an arrow means the topic has been moved to another forum, but the original topic has a shadow in place in the original forum it was created in, so people can see it's been moved.

Why do owners of high street properties prefer to have them empty than set affordable rents?

1. So as not to drive down rent prices on adjacent properties.
2. Even sat empty it's still a valuable asset that increases in value over time.

The bigger question is why do we allow a small percentage of the population to own such a large percentage of the property?

I think that the real answer to that is that the scales are tipped to such an extreme that the haves, despite the overwhelming numerical disadvantage, are - by many different measurements - in fact too remote from the have nots to have their lives disrupted by them.

Here, in the West, we tolerate it, because it is a system that, by and large, provides for us too.

At least it does for the time being.

Why any "singer" would put themselves forward for total humiliation in representing the UK at Eurovision?

I've said this to a work colleague this morning. We're always going to lose the Eurovision, so I reckon we should just enter bands like Naplam Death and Discharge, just to f*** the competition off. Who knows, we might even win it. Finland did when they entered a death metal band.

To be fair an empty stage with a Union Jack flag hanging from the ceiling, would do better than any of the acts we have entered in the last 10/15 years.
