I think we can solve this. You know those cameras that are on wires that fly over the pitch, well we could strap Costas GPS vest to this via a wire. As soon as it looks like he's going to go off the vertical the computer can tighten the wire and prevent him going down.

I think, because of the colour and consistency and it's similarity to chocolate, it'd melt into a gloppy mess, rather than sear off and seal around the edges.
