The wheatsheaf Romford, has two lovely pints of carlsberg while sitting outside chatting to the missus, a brilliant way to end a great afternoon £3.50 a pint and a nice atmosphere. 9/10

A lot of it seems to be a bit out there, and are upwards of 7% ABV, and many are only sold in halves or third multiples.

I nipped in for a pint of Vagabond, which was a fairly nondescript but decent enough session IPA. I will no doubt have to give it another visit at some time to test some of the other offerings, although I find Brewdog to be a bit over rated in general.
Brewdog certainly do not just sell their own stuff, furthermore you can have any beer in any measure and it will be priced accordingly. The sizes on the board are just advisory as it would be foolish to drink a pint of a 12% Imperial Stout, but if you really wanted to, you could.

The Beer Emporium, Bristol.

10/10.

They serve beer. But more importantly they serve it in a low ceilinged, vaulted brick basement which is fantastically cool and dank when it's 400 degrees outside.

The George Hornchurch Saturday night, on the buds by now and they were in a plastic bottle but still nice and cold. Never been in a pub with such gorgeous barmaids and they done a good job aswell, never waiting for long to be served, good music an all. 8:10

^ I nipped in the Firkin for a couple. I must be getting old as I used to love that pub, but the beer is crap. A poor selection and what they gave me was watery, lacking fizz and more or less tasteless.

Decent scenery mind.

Yeah left the firkin after on on sat, too busy, moody beer and plastic glasses made us venture over to the George.

I noticed that ! :)

In my memory I thought it was a much bigger pub , I asked one of the barmaids if they'd partitioned the lounge bar off but she just said the scaffolding made it look smaller .

I went to Safffend this weekend to visit a mate. We may have been in 1 or 2 pubs (too many!).

The Foresters, Southend Sea Front For those of us of a certain age this was THE pub to go to before your Bank Holiday punch up with your rivals be they Skinheads/Greasers/Bikers/Mods/Suedeheads. From the outside it looked liked a battened down fortress that had gone to pot - Big doors that allowed only one way access and no widows. Upon entering the reason for the lack of windows became very apparent. It's become a lap dancing bar. Surprisingly enough it was banged out with female day trippers and the I realised the lap dances took place in very small rooms, at the East and West of the bar.

My mate noticed that one of the strippers was at the bar having a drink - replete with corset, stockings and G string - and all I can say is if that is what passes for a stripper today, I'm glad I don't watch strippers any more. Given the complete lack of bar staff, the throng of women trying to get served and the fact that the floor and one of the bar rails was stickier than Liberties on a bad day, we exited pretty quick. 0/10

The Hope, Southend Sea Front. A hotel bar that was 50% full but had the TV blaring music out at full volume. It was hard to chat so, we took our drinks to a residential area away from the noise. The bar staff were efficient, the range of beers poor and the prices decent - £3.70 a pint of some fizzy lager, which I must say hot the spot on a warm day.

The Falcon, Southend Sea Front. A small pub, with cheap decent branded lager which hot the spot. A bigger range of brews than the other pubs before but still somewhat limited. Friendly (and young and buxom) bar staff, unobtrusive TV's and a decent view of the front on the plus side, on the negative, it was tatty, needed a refurb and a clean. Locals weren't overly friendly either.

The Last Post, near Southend Train Station A spoons pub with a decent range of beer, top prices, good staff and friendly locals. A massive pub which was banged out with punters, Nice vibe for a spoons - got talking to a scouser (blue nose) who lived down here and was a regular at Southend. Decent pub but deffo suffers from lack of staff.

The Railway Tavern, near Southend Train Station: Best pub of the day so far. Seeped in history - DR Feelgood first started out there and loads of famous bands have played there - a wide range of beer at decent prices, really great staff, live music, it serves Vegan food and a beer garden where you can sit, get the sun and chat. Full of "alternative types", the atmosphere was great, the live bands decent and I loved it. Free in as well.

The Cow and Telescope More live music, reasonably priced beer and lovely staff and no entry fee. Clean, comfortable small booths to sit in and chat plus the best bogs of the day by far. Lager was good and I would have stayed later but it was getting late and I didn't want to miss my last train back to London Town.

Edited due to Eugene Speed pointing out my drunken errors! Thanks mate.

Think you may have had a few too many at this point! The Last Post used to be a post office. Only opened in the mid 90s as Southends first 'Spoons. Do you mean the Railway?

Southend in general has gone right downhill and looks badly in need of investment. The only real reason to go there when I was a youngun was to see all the cars along the circuit but the council have ended that now.

Yeah, it has a bit. Areas like Leigh seem to have places opening every week, but Southend High Street itself is just... bleak.

Was back a few weeks ago and we went to the West Road tap, near the Palace Theatre. Nice craft beer place that has opened in what used to be some public toilets. Grabbed some fish and chips from Oldhams afterwards, then finished off in The Trading Rooms.

I hope you had a good time in Bris MB. I usually don't do the Beer Emporium this time of year as I prefer to be outside in the 400 degrees heat. Did you get to try any other places?

Spent a lot of time in the Last Post growing up - some great memories. Not lived there since moving out 8 years ago but parents are still in leigh and thorpe bay.

Favourite place was the Mariners in Leigh and the Smack and Peterboat in Old Leigh.

Had a beer in Cobbett's Real Ale Shop in Dorking on Friday. Weird to say the least. The beer selection is vast and caters for almost every style of beer. I opted for a German wheat beer which was lovely - really hit the spot. However, drinking beer in what effectively is a shop is a new one on me. Didn't dislike it, just felt a bit strange. I think my liver would be in a serious state if this was local to me.

8/10

Couldn't disagree more unless you ref to the High St which is going the way of all UK High Streets that don't offer free parking.

It was more a general feel of the front. Parked by the Casino and walked down to Adventure Island with the kids. All along there, up the the Kursaal.

I think Southend suffers from having a crap beach.
