Carpenters Arms - old london Rd - Rayleigh or Wickford
I popped in here the other sunday when passing and i dont really like pub roasts as they are never as good as i get at home - but this one was up there, decent amount and really good food. Landlady was a lovely woman too - messed the bill up slightly so gave us a free drink and desert. The sticky toffee pudding was one of the best i have ever had !

Well f*** me old boots. Looks like someone has finally seen the light and this pub, once again, is now stocking the whole range of TT beers. It's a Fulham pub on match days but they're quite an inoffensive bunch so if you go to enjoy the beer I'm sure you'll be fine.sandbanks wrote:The only pub in London that I know that once stocked the whole range of TT beers was The Bricklayers Arms in Putney. That's when it was winning the CAMRA awards for best pub in the SW London region and the best pub in Greater London. It was incredibly popular and a real destination pub for the 'tickers'.
About 7 years ago they became one of those pubs that it is in permanent 'beer festival' mode and the customer base has dwindled, other than when Fulham play at home. It was never the best run pub but survived because of the TT range. Now it's only a matter of time IMO until it closes/gets taken over.

This is probably the best news I'll have all Christmas. A London boozer with the full range of TT!
In there Saturday 100%

pie of the year awards for few years - very much recommendsendô wrote:The Windmill in Mayfair.
Apparently it's well known for doing a good range of cracking pies. I wanted to find out, but unfortunately it was a work do and so we got the pre-chosen selection of "nibbles", which included small pies that had the pastry/filling ratio all wrong.
Still, it was a proper boozer, and was rammed on a Thursday with little space to move. They also did a cracking pint of Beavertown Neck Oil, which I had 5 of just to make sure they were consistent.
There's also a "roof terrace", which in all honesty isn't so much a terrace is it is just a flat roof with a few chairs, surrounded by tall buildings.

I've drunk there for years with other West Ham. We don't wear colours though.
Edited to add that in line with other football pubs on match days it will be plastic glasses I'm afraid

Went in the Counting House at Leicester. Completely rammed when I turned up - 'one out one in' door policy operating but only had to wait a couple of minutes - and also the same to get served. Decent enough pub, can't remember what beers they had as I had Stella that day. Staff very friendly - bogs reasonable considering how busy it was. Girl came round with tray of cheeseburgers as people were all leaving that she was flogging for £3 which was decent enough. I'd go in there again.vietnammer wrote:I'm asking what people's experience of 'away' pubs is.

Great news. All felt a bit shambolic there for a while. Remember being in there once and a punter telling the barmaid that the pub was listed on Google as being 'Permanently closed' and she didn't seem bothered.sandbanks wrote:Well **** me old boots. Yes, let in away supporters. Their Twitter post a while back mentions the Southampton guests they had when they played at the Cottage recently.mushy wrote:You reckon they will let in away supporters?

Pubs I've been in for the last 4 weeks or so:
The Last Resort, Southend: Probably the biggest pub I've ever been in. It's got a massive selection of ales and beers, my tipple of choice being Black Dragon Cider. I had a few pints of that and it was lovely. Crisp, cloudy with a hint of bitterness and not sickly sweet. The prices are amazing. I could get a day return to this place from London and save the rail fare on beer! Ruddles special Bitter - £1:89 a pint! Doombar £1.99 a pint! BD Cider £3.00 a pint. The clients are a mixed bunch of locals, day trippers, workers and holiday makers plus some footie fans. They has WHU on in the bar for the Fulham game which was a bonus. Not the best pub in the world but I like it a lot. Oh and I'm gonna get the app for table service in Weatherspoons as the bar was rammed at times.
Chinnerys, Southend. Managed to squeeze a gig in while I was down there. (Theatre of Hate) I was very happy to see that the Guinness was £3:80 a pop in the club. A nice, small but atmospheric venue with decent booze and top bands - what's not to like.
Latymers Pub Hammersmith Popped in for a celebration of a friends life. Lovely bar staff, great Guinness, great layouts, tiny but clean bogs. I'd go back. My mates say the Thai food they do there (which they specialise in) was "Fantastic."
Novotel Hammersmith. £5 for a decent pint of Guinness in a hotel bar was reasonable for me. Bar staff were a bit haphazard, as they were very busy, but the two pints I had there were nice. Exceptional bogs. Very modern and comfortable and a great place for a chat.
Tommy Flowers Pub, Poplar. reasonably priced drinks (£3.50 a Carlsburg), top staff, fantastic music and a comfortable place to sit, chat and wind down. Great staff and a wonderful local type vibe. OK bogs, but the ale drinkers will have to make do with one Keg beer as the rest of the bitters/IPA are bottled: Brewdog, Doombar, Trooper, Punk IPA, Pigs Ear etc. I love this place.

BBC website the other day had a pub (not sure where), that was not accepting cash as it had a couple of break ins. Said they didn't think it would affect takings as about 80% was on cards.sandbanks wrote:Those going to the Brickies tomorrow - take cash.

I used to drink in the place when it was The Railway Tavern and it was a gay/straight friendly pub where all were welcome. I've not been in since the refit but some of my mates have. They say it is decent enough, on the expensive side, with a decent range of brews. Given it's proximity to The White Swan, The Old Ship and Sailors massage parlour, it's still gay/straight friendly but you've now given me the reason to go in and have a look in The Craft Beer pub (not Sailors! )mushy wrote:Indy, what's that Craft Ale place like on The Commercial Road,by Limehouse station?

I drink regularly in the Old Ship btw and it's a fantastic pub. It's a gay pub that is straight friendly and I know the owner John as he used to have Booty's Wine Bar in Limehouse Causeway, before it was closed down. Great beer and wine, a decent selection of ales, very reasonable prices and if you like an old fashioned drag act (as me and my mates do) it's a place well worth a visit.

A big Brewdog pub has opened near Tower Hill recently. Not been in there.... yet.sendô wrote:I did the Brewdog pub in Shoreditch last week. It was alright to be fair, not too wanky but also not full of bellends like a lot of "bars" around there. Beer was excellent too.
Had one in the Goose Island bar before too, which was also okay. Craft brewery pubs seem to be the rage now.

What about the pub on the opposite corner? The Queen Anne maybe?
Will give the craft pub a go myself.
