I saw that place when I last went down to Maidstone for a tour of our old university haunts. It's opposite the Muggleton isn't it? Looked pretty dead when we passed.

Yeah that's the one. Been past it a few times but never went in. Don't think I'll be going back too soon.

Kent seems to be the home of micropubs.

It does and I've been to several down here. There's one not too far from me called The Cellar's Bar which is a great little pub. The ales and ciders are mainly brewed on the premises or very local. They also do ciders and a guest ale (which last time I was in was Orkeny Brewery Dark Island, which wasn't bad at all). They really do some great ales down in Kent and there must be hundred of breweries down here.
The hope that grow down here are world renowned and even the Belgians use Kentish hops in some of their beers.

One of the 'last proper pubs standing' round there too. Always seems busy with a decent mix of people, unlike a lot of the pubs round there.

Jennie and I met up with The Collector and the lovely Mrs Collector at the Eilean Iarmain yesterday - I could be seen there most nights years ago but despite it being my local I hadn't been there in several years , don't know if it's an old age thing or objecting to pay pub prices for a drink that costs me pennies to drink at home .
Over two hours passed like it was ten minutes - sadly we had to be on our way to Inverness as our lad volunteers at a charity warehouse on Thursdays otherwise I could have chatted away until closing time - the Eilean Iarmain is one of three bars with real charm on Skye , the others being The Old Inn at Carbost and The Stein Inn at Waternish . 10/10 .

We ventured down there too Romford. Tiny places but great drinking holes. So quirky and different compared to the rest of the town.

People in Boro have no reason to be up their own arse! They live in a scummy town in the north of England!

I'm doing the exact opposite, staying in and healing my wallet, liver and dignity.

Anyone got any recommendations for a good countryside pub between Glasgow and Ayr / Stranraer way? Will be in that area next week and wouldn't mind a bit of a detour for a pint and a bite to eat if there's a decent place before heading back into Glasgow?

It's great Rio check it out. Really friendly. Sat chatting to the landlady for ages last time I was in there. Loads of different ales and ciders to try. Dog and kid friendly as well.

Davys isn't bad for beer and food.

Few pints of Old Whallop and a club sandwich was my lunchtime staple for a good few years.

As for around Spitalfields I also like the Gun and The Magpie. There's also the Bell and the Astronomer on Middlesex Street

German bier kellar opening up in March round my way. Cannot wait. Saw the beer menu last night. It looks great, loads of different wheat beers and decent bock and pilsners too. They're even going to sell some Belgian stuff too. Bring it on!

I stayed a few nights in York last October.

I did b&b in the Golden Fleece but spent a lot of time in a lovely gem of a pub just around the corner called The Blue Bell.
It's a very small pub that sticks religiously to 11pm closing but has got to be one of the best pubs I have ever visited.
