I'll be checking the new and improved travellers friend out this weekend.Big George wrote:

I'm an old man, high days and holidays for me. good to see its open again as a boozer.Centre Half wrote:

I only live less than a five minute walk away so will be good to have it back open!
The Horse and Well isn't my cup of tea anymore. I'm relatively young myself (24) but was in there for the boxing the other week, half the clientele must have been 17!

I used to like it with my late old man but fella who had it ran out of money. Its going to become a Turkish but the new owner has Funky Mojo type ambitions and the residents are kicking off. Great building, lousy location.mushy wrote:Another vote for Spivs, a pub I have frequented on and off for over 40 years.
Big George, I seem to remember you once mentioned the Napier Arms (I think).
I see there is some building work going on there, any news or is it another Turkish?
As for the Horse and Wells, no thanks.
Sensational building, slightly spoiled by the architecture in the immediate area. Visiting the 10 oldest boozers in London is an excellent idea. I've always fancied trying the Castles, built for the Navvys, plenty of history there too.RichieRiv wrote:The George, Borough High Street.
Rammo due to the sunshine so very slow getting served, but nice to be drinking in one of the last remaining coaching inns in the country.
7/10
I am now aiming to drink in the other 9 oldest pubs in London.
Huge shame, that. I love to look at those old buildings and try to visualise hundreds of years of change and life.RichieRiv wrote:It used to have galleries on both sides, but they knocked one side down to build warehouses.
I didn't have a clue what they were until I just looked them up. If anyone's interested, they are:RichieRiv wrote:I am now aiming to drink in the other 9 oldest pubs in London.
Cracking littlke pub that. Was The Duke of Wellingtons officers mess before going off to the Penisular wars, part of his old mounting block is still outside the pub. I have worked in Knightsbridge for 25 years, so been in here a fair few times.great pubBalaamBoy wrote:^^^
Not bad - I score 8/10 there!
I thought the Grenadier in Belgravia was supposed to be one of the oldest, but I'm clearly mistaken.
