I'll be checking the new and improved travellers friend out this weekend.

I only live less than a five minute walk away so will be good to have it back open!

The Horse and Well isn't my cup of tea anymore. I'm relatively young myself (24) but was in there for the boxing the other week, half the clientele must have been 17!

We must of bumped into eachother then!

They've banned all of those kids now, made it 21 for a bit so as to stop them going.

They are doing a big conversion out the back making it into a proper pub garden.

Another vote for Spivs, a pub I have frequented on and off for over 40 years.
Big George, I seem to remember you once mentioned the Napier Arms (I think).
I see there is some building work going on there, any news or is it another Turkish?
As for the Horse and Wells, no thanks.

I used to like it with my late old man but fella who had it ran out of money. Its going to become a Turkish but the new owner has Funky Mojo type ambitions and the residents are kicking off. Great building, lousy location.

as for the bloody Cricketers with misery behind the bar...

The George, Borough High Street.

Rammo due to the sunshine so very slow getting served, but nice to be drinking in one of the last remaining coaching inns in the country.

7/10

I am now aiming to drink in the other 9 oldest pubs in London.

Sensational building, slightly spoiled by the architecture in the immediate area. Visiting the 10 oldest boozers in London is an excellent idea. I've always fancied trying the Castles, built for the Navvys, plenty of history there too.

It used to have galleries on both sides, but they knocked one side down to build warehouses.

Huge shame, that. I love to look at those old buildings and try to visualise hundreds of years of change and life.

Last night was Bar Solento Poplar E14

My old hang out when I worked on the area. Went to a mates leaving do. No a place for real beer freaks but they had a full range of lagers (Moretti etc) and very decent Guinness. Bar staff are great, bogs clean if small and the clientèle ok. Last night was a musical "Cheese" night. Not my cuppa tea usually but when you've had a few and the memories come flooding back, it turned into decent fun.

"Where's ya Mumma gone?"

7/10

also The Old George Bethnal Green road E 2

A bit of a hipster pub with a lot of craft/real ale - mainly about £4.00 a pop. Decent crowd, dodgy small bogs with old dart boards in, decent bar staff, comfortable settings and enjoyable music.

I had a pint of Ghost Ship by Adnams. Horrible stuff, supposed to be a Pale Ale but is more like an old fashioned pint of bitter, with a nasty bitter taste. I left after that.

Made it into the Spivs in Woodford today. Beers good, pretty similar clientele as before with addition of Steve Lomas holding court with a group of pals. Our former skipper looked pretty happy with life.

Only criticism was the noise, considering there was no music and it was just a bunch of bank holiday middle folk having a few beers, it was deafening. To be fair it's not completely finished but all those hard surfaces made it hard to hear your self think.

Not bad - I score 8/10 there!

I thought the Grenadier in Belgravia was supposed to be one of the oldest, but I'm clearly mistaken.

We were invited to lunch at a teacher mate of ours who lost her husband just over a year ago - in a past life she and her husband were on the folk scene headlining with the likes of Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham and after lunch she invited us to accompany her to the Uig Hotel where she was performing with other musicians .
We'd driven past the Uig Hotel many a time but always preferred the Ferry Inn a few hundred yards down the road [ now closed down ] .
The Uig Hotel stands on the hill before you enter the village where the Cal Mac Ferry takes you to the Outer Isles - the car park was almost full and I wondered whether we'd get a seat but upon entering I noticed that the hotel was split into three separate rooms - the dining area , a sitting area outwith the bar and the bar itself , a rather cosy small room with a conservatory adjacent - strangely enough the bar was almost empty until we and the rest of the singers and musicians arrived and we got a table to ourselves .
We spent a rather enjoyable two hours [ 4pm - 6pm ] listening to various singers , guitarists and a very talented jazz pianist , then near the end of the session , Sarah [ our mate ] drags Dan [ our son ] up to the mic and they sang a duet of ' Loch Lomond ' - we couldn't stop smiling .
If you're ever on Skye , the volunteer musicians and singers can be found at the Uig Hotel every second Sunday afternoon - I can recommend it .

The Pilot Inn,River way SE10
Nice pub 5 minutes from North Greenwich station, decent ales and nice surroundings.Bit pricey though,as Fullers pubs tend to be 7/10

The Antigallican,Woolwich Road, Charlton,SE7.
Basic old school boozer,no real ale but the keg IPA was good. Friendly enough Guvnor and punters.
Typical football pub really 7/10
