Out on maneuvers yesterday, so agreed to meet the lad, who works locally, at Westfield and buy him lunch.
Agreed, on his suggestion to go to the Five Guys concession on the food court.

I could have sworn that the drinks came free, when I first used the West End one, around the time it first opened.

£25+ for a pair of burgers, one drink and a shared portion of their fries, which were barely warm at 1210, was a touch over-priced to say the least.

We waited longer for the grub than the time it took to eat it. Had a view of the corner of the lunar landscape, but not an aid to digestion.

Was in the office biscuit tub by 1400.

Won't be doing that again! (5 Guys, not the cookies).

Yeah another one I don't get the hype for, five guys is nice but the price is obscene for fast food.

I agree mate I endured the same, long wait, ****ed up my order and overpriced for a very average burger. Not recommended.

Went to the Smoking Goat in shoreditch this week after hearing rave reviews on this Bangkok influenced Thai restaurant.

Being influenced by the Bangkok and more southern region of Thailand there is a lot more focus on spice and the Duck Laab in particular packs a big punch. The starters were very good and would recommend ordering a few and sharing if you';re in a group. The wings and the sausage were my favourite.

The mains we also shared but these were more underwhelming although the goat massaman was superb.

All in all I would give it a 7/10 - okay but not sure it was worth replacing the White Horse....

Som Saa round the corner is better.

Yesterday - Lupita, Charing Cross.

Casual cafe style with seats at the bar and a view into the kitchen. Had some Alambre steak pieces served with floury tortilla's, a side of Mexican rice and frijoles charros (a bean & pork stew with chilli & corriander).

The Alambre was tasty with the steak tender and not overpowered by the peppers, very filling and not too stodgy as sometimes UK Mexican can be. Sell themselves as the best of Mexican street stalls...indoors, in London, and they do a very good job, if maybe a bit toppy with the price.

Friendly, relaxed staff and a nice background music taking me back to my Mexico days. Washed it all down with a couple of Modelo Especial's....oh the memories.

Best Mexican in London I'd say.

8/10 - Tasty.

Amerigo Vespucci - Canary Wharf I've been going here for years. I first went when it was located in Tobacco Dock and when it subsequently moved to CW. I followed it. I haven't eaten vegan food here before, so was a bit worried about what they could do for me, as the menu is very meat and fish based.

I shouldn't have bothered worrying. A quick chat with the very very helpful waiter confirmed that they could do me avocado with stuffed marinated veg with mixed leaves and a medley of herbs to start. He then confirmed they had 4 different types of vegan pasta and I could have with it what I liked - off menu. I went for mixed veg in a hot spicy tomato sauce with spaghetti and a side of spinach.

The starter was really good. The marinade was lovely - very lemony and garlicky- whilst the thyme, oregano and basil really brought out the taste of the avocado.

The main was even better - a massive bowl of spice hot veg, not overly hot, but hot enough to enjoy and let all the flavours burst through, plus hand made spaghetti, which complemented the sauce perfectly.

My colleague ( a carnivore) had a mushroom risotto which was described as "Divine, the best risotto I've ever had!"

The service was top notch and when we were finished we got two free drinks each.

One starter, two mains, two sides, a bottle of wine and one spirit for £66! The reason for this is that we used the 20% discount voucher we got via email.

10/10 - I can't wait to go back

9/10 for the bogs too!

Steak and Co in Central London.

Great, but simple, concept of cooking your own meat on a (very) hot plate. Steak was lovely as were the 3 choices - seasoning, butter and sauce.

The Ivy Soho Brasserie on Broadwick Street, a chain roll out of the Ivy Brand.

Most of it was ok, think posh Cafe Rouge. but the bar was a shocker.

Our table wasn't ready so we went for a drink, bartender looked like a tramp and didn't have a clue. Friend asked what dark rums he had, might as well have asked for a unicorn. eventually brought over a bottle and opened it, shoved it under his nose and said "does that smell right?"

Ordered two rubbish drinks, table service was ok and food was good but not sure I'll rush back.

Done the Sunday Brunch at the Devonshire Club at Liverpool St last week. £30 a head (add £15 for bottomless prosecco) was very good. The Roast was lovely and also had some eggs and smoked salmon and tried a bit of their steak. Was very good value in all and a lovely venue.

I've been to the Denmark Street Smoking Goat a few times and always found it outstanding. Believe it is closing now to make way from crossrail. The fish sauce chicken wings are devine.

I was in Paris over the weekend and dined at Le Flamboire. Probably the best steak I've ever had, was 90 euros for a one kilo rib eye to share and it was absolutely gorgeous. Above and beyond Hawksmoor and any of the like

9/10

I’m intrigued by this post as I recently saw a Timeout offer where the unlimited brunch and a single glass of Prosecco was being sold for £29, apparently valued at £42.

I looked at the Devonshire Club website and couldn’t find a price for a single glass of Prosecco, but if you are saying the unlimited food is £30, then the Prosecco must be £12 a glass, which seems steep.

That said, I guess it’s still a fair deal - save a quid and a free Prosecco is better than a slap in the chops.

Tas Restaurant, Borough High Street

Turkish restraunt which I think is excellent. The food is superb (although the portions are a bit stingy compared to Wood Green). Really nice stuff though and the service is excellent.

All in all, I'll give it an 8.5/10

Dip & Flip in Battersea.
Burgers or roast meat banquettes, that you dip in gravy.
I went for the Dip & Flip Burger which has sliced roast meat in the bun. It was very messy but for a meaty blow out out is pretty decent. Although I didn't think there was enough roast meat in the bun, would rather hvae paid a bit more and had more.
Still it was cheap enough, big burgers, fries and a drink for four, just over £70. I would go again 7.5/10

Sagar Fitzrovia, 17a Percy St, Fitzrovia, London W1T 1DU - A Veggie/Vegan restaurant that specialises in South Indian Cuisine, especially Dosas. Dosa's are like pancakes and come with a myriad of fillings. I had the Mysore Masala Dosa, a thin pancake stuffed with Potatoes, onions and carrots with a spicy curry paste spread all over, that comes with an avocado coconut dip and a small pot of curry sauce. My mate had the same and my other mate went for a Paper Masala Dosa - basically comes up looking like one of them old fashioned gramophone speakers.

We also had Sag Aloo and Chana Massala, washed down with a couple of Cobras. The food was just what I wanted: filling, tasty, spicy, comfort food. The service was excellent, the place was spotless and they had some great ambient lighting, which gave an intimate feel to the place.

I can't comment on the prices, as my meal was paid for me by my mate. She said it was really reasonable prices though. Here's their website if you ate interested : http://www.sagarveg.co.uk/west-end/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Highly recommended.

Bogaz in Chelmsford.

Turkish I guess following the sheesh model which seems to be the new 'in' cuisine. Very good atmosphere, we sat upstairs which looked better than down but both buzzing. They do turn the lights off and pump out music for someone's birthday, four whilst we were there, which becomes a bit annoying as you're tucking into your lamb chops.

Food was nice, I've had better chops but they were good enough. Food was a bit on the lumpy side with mains priced at around a score, plus extra for sides. Starters about £8. It was what I'd consider London prices which knocks a point off the score for me. All in I'd give it a 7/10. Will go back, would order a different main though.
