Pizza Metro Pizza, Battersea - A place that makes all the pizza that the table has chosen into essentially 1 metre long ones. The pizza itself was okay, nothing mind blowing and the fact it was a metre long didn't really add much in truth. The goats cheese starter was nice. Service was quite good and with 3 bottles of Peroni (i think) and an Irish coffee to end the meal, £37 with tip. 6/10.
Birleys is still going. His got a few shops now, does a decent breakfast in there
there is a plague of turkish restaurants opening everywhere , soon every high street will have 3/4 ,
I have noticed this too. Even the cafes serving full english breakfasts and homemade meals tend to be run by the Turkish nowadays.
I completely agree gents, they are saturating the market but most of them are very busy, I guess because it's tasty fresh food and a lot of people deem it to be very healthy.
Completely agree. I love a decent kebab as much as anyone and there is a coupe of decent ones where I live but surely the amount opening up in every high street must be down to money laundering rather than evey Turk thinking they can cook a bit of chicken or lamb
Certainly is. Still a couple in the square mile and a few over in the Wharf. Their roast meat sandwich is something to behold.
Cheers..i will treat myself
Had a rather splendid club sandwich and, broke my non alcohol rule with a lovely pint of schiehallion(?) lager in a little cafe in Edinburgh(old town.)
There's a very suspicious Turkish barbers in Emerson Park/Hornchurch lets put it that way...
We have had some Turkish restaurant owners as clients. They were incredibly dodgy and were even quite boastful about it.
There is a takeaway in Gidea Park which had TEN delivery drivers at one point when they first opened and for around a year afterwards. I think they now only have 6. 6 is an incredible amount still but this demonstrates that the market is oversaturated as mentioned above. Conversely the number of good Chinese takeaways will be in decline as many are being taken over by Chinese nationals who don't really have much of a clue. There has even been a rise in Chinese takeaways being owned and managed by middle eastern guys. Whilst acceptable to some, the standards are never going to compare favourably.
Well I think I've just found my next business venture. I went to see a professional American smoker today and the chef taught me how to cook the most amazing brisket, it was incredible, the guy is a genius, he has so much passion for it, he's a professional chef with years of experience at the Ivy, Ritz, Mayfair, Sainsbury's product development and then he got into smoking during a US road trip to Chicago.
I was so impressed that I bought a smoker there and then, so my new venture will be American BBQ food for takeaway, brisket rolls, pulled pork, hot links, smoked chickens, maybe quality burgers, possibly delivering too.
Best of luck Nick!
Any ideas of location?
Brentwood, Ongar or Loughton would be ideal (for me!)
Thank you. Brentwood, there is a shop I'm looking at right now and I've made an offer and if that doesn't go through then I will add it to my fish and chip shop menu and make it a Fish and Smokehouse takeaway
I hope it's at the end of the High St near to me.
It's not far from Wilson's corner, I'm guessing you are nearer Kings Road.
Yes we are although the other end of the High Street is still walkable from ours in about 10 minutes.
A few times I was close to making an offer for the restaurant that Chelo have and also I made an offer for the empty premises where Chimichanga is but they got there first and are a big chain (shame really as it's dead in there and would have been a good spot for us)
We may well start deliveries soon but Deliveroo are not keen on taking on any takeaways.
Looking forward to it
Chelo is closed isn't it?
