I know very little about shoes, but what are Barker shoes like? And is £200+ for a pair silly money?

Barker make good shoes.

As for silly money, I was always told that you should always splash out on shoes and a mattress.

My wife hates it when I do that though. She also hates it in her hair.

And no Warp she doesn't hate it when you do that.

I'm with you on the mattress but not on the shoes.

Their general upkeep is largely out of your hands. Someone stands on them by accident, bad weather, uneven pavement, hidden dog ****.

Plus, they're on your feet. Not many people looking down there with any regularity.

Stitched sole unit by the look of it with leather sole. Decent enough although the leather might be ***** quality.

I have a pair of Oliver Sweeney's brought for my wedding 10 years ago. Still going strong and really comfortable. They get the odd re-heel / sole but most of all get polished regularly. That keeps out the damp, polishes out scuffs and scratches. The key is never wear them ever day. They need to rest.

Plus i don't really care whether people are looking at my feet, i know and that's all that counts.

I own 3 pairs of shoes. I have never paid over €45 for a pair in my life.

Serious questions,

How many pairs of shoes do you all have and why are you paying £200 or £300 for them?

You're right. It hadn't occurred to me but I get hassle for what I've got on my feet quite regularly, on reflection.

**** them regardless. I know I look good. Maybe it's deemed unconventional by them, but I carry off what others can't.

Still don't spend money on shoes though. I have a scuffy, shuffly walking style which batters my shoes into oblivion before I've even worn the bastards in.
