The Mental Health Thread - (Help Contacts in First Post).

Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

Do you not get any support from the Fire Service after you leave? I would presume that for the last few years there has been some form of support in the job, we have TRiM, I didn't realise this stopped on leaving.

Shocking

I think the offer of support should continue afterwards too.

Hopefully this is something that changes the more society opens up about the issue.

Just want to reiterate how inspiring it is to read the help that people on here give each other. Knowing a couple of folk here via PM and what they go through, yet still they give a lot of themselves to help others with genuinely considered, mindful kindly advice and thoughts.

I wish I could get back to doing the same and being of more help to others. I just hope folk are getting the same overall reassurance that I glean from this post - in fact I can see they do.

The internet can seem a very cruel place but this thread displays the best of what people are really about, and I'd like to think this thread is much closer to the reality of how we treat each other as opposed to the superficial nastiness that can sometimes be more apparent.

Sorry to be mawkish (it's what I do!), and it's the end of another very long and tricky night that I've got through okay again, somehow.

Well done everyone.

Nice one.
I was going to say " now go and get some sleep! ", but then thought about it a bit more.

I truly believe that whatever you're experiencing, short term/long term , for good reason, or no obvious reason at all, it's exacerbated massively by lack of sleep. [ further to that, it's recognized that in many MH conditions low mood is inextricably linked with poor sleep].
I've struggled with this for a long, long time, have no answers, but this is what I'm currently trying : less booze (especially late), regular swimming ( well, sort of,splashing about would be more accurate), less screen time, I walk at least 4 miles a day, and always a late walk just before I turn in ( I take the dog,it looks less suspicious).
Currently, I get about 4 hours unbroken,on a good night.
Sorry if I've gone off on a tangent ignore if that's the case.

(Stick with it Stu, summer's coming).

Haven't been on for a few days but to come back and see this did make me laugh I have to say! Taking relationship advice from someone like that is her biggest flaw.

Update: She is still a bi*ch but I know I'm better off and I'm back cutting my body fat percentage, back in the gym 6 days a week, think the worst days are behind me now so thank you all so much for your help and support.

A little light relief....So, had my dad for four days as his partner was off on a small break/rest bite. He has dementia pretty bad now, so not the easiest four days but one thing did make me laugh, he asked after my mum (they have been separated for 30 odd years), explained not in the best of health and mentioned my sister by her name now lives with her, was waiting for how is she and put me in a position do I say or not (they fell out 15 odd years ago and have not spoken since, he adopted her from a very early age), he said "who is she?" Always a plus side

I have spent four days pretty much in the 50's, 60's & 70's, him telling me remember when we done this (if they are real). Funny old four days!

The Metro is generally very good on mental health type articles.

Desperately sad story.

A life snuffed out over a thousand pounds

Nobody acted improperly within the strictures of the law but it's soul destroying to read tales like this of people trying hard to get by and ending up feeling like they have no choice but to end it

Good God. What an utter sh*tfest my generation has left for their children.

True Whitey...

The problem is, there are so many vulnerable people who are at the receiving end of such officialdom who can't cope with it.

that Final Notice Removal notice is pretty intimidating. As are the other letters.

Bailiffs and warrants, texts and letters. It's easy to see things getting out of hand with someone already suffering mental health issues.

A kid... £1,000......a cheeky good natured face.

Some things are really wrong here.

I think this made me shudder the most. Something as impersonal as a text to let you know that we are coming around to your house to remove your possessions. It needs looking at and quickly.

When a programme like Can't Pay, We'll Take it Away has been running for 3 or 4 series now, you know things are wrong.

Yeah,

The text I thought very very strange.

Not how I would expect things to operate when things reach this level.

It sort of circumvents the individual as person.....and I mean a real person. Texts are pretty basic **** that no-one should be hanging a hat on during something like this.

I know I would have been lucky...

My Mum would have raised a £1,000 and my life would have moved on.

Many not so lucky, sadly.

Yep , I got into a similar initial debt when I left the forces and I was in a bad bad mental state at that point. My old man sorted it out for me.

Like you say, not everyone has that support network although looks like his brother tried as much as he could to help him.

What got me about this story is the shitty bailiff clearly deliberately over valued the bike by a whole £1k so that they could seize it. Then came out with an " oh we don't know how to value bikes" excuse after the poor kid killed himself

Here's a lesson then, don't ****ing value bikes you arseholes.

AKA Poverty Porn - to let better off people gloat at other people's misfortunes and to let them know that they are not THAT far away from being in a similar situation either. I refuse to watch it along with Benefit Porn - i.e, Benefit Street etc.

People who read the Daily Mail love it. I.e. My mum.
