Beans or No Beans?

Postby Greatest Cockney Rip Off on Tue Sep 26, 2017 1:56 pm

... on an English breakfast. I'm firmly in the no camp, although previously it never used to bother, it bothers the hell out of me now. They ruin it completely and have only been introduced by unscrupulous cafe owners.
It should consist of ...

Sausage
Bacon
Mushrooms
Fried egg(s)s
Grilled tomato(s),
Fried bread
Toast
Cup of tea

What say all of you?

Yes to beans. It's a bit dry otherwise.

Most items are optional and interchangeable.

Chips do not belong on a full English, nor IMO do hash browns.

Always Beans, Heinz Beans.

Add hash browns.

Not a fan of fried bread.

No for me.

And, maybe sacrilege, but I'll give the fried bread a miss too.

Beans in, black pudding in.

As correctly stated above, there is no place for chips on a fried breakfast.

I wouldn't go for fried bread but am happy with beans on there. It's not entirely necessary though. Especially if the egg is nice and runny.

I can take or leave beans. If i do have them, the sauce must be thick not watery.
We never had beans on a fry up as a kid,as my dad saw them as " a yank thing".
I would add Black and White pudding to your original list GCRO.I also like Hash Browns(sorry dad).
Can i just air my disgust at the state of sausages in most cafes these days. Those elongated tasteless industrial efforts leave me cold.
Bring back real bangers!!*

*Chas's cafe in southgate have superb sausages,as does the breakout cafe opposite Pentonville nick

I do love square sausage in Scotland as well
And an Ulster fry is a good alternative to a full English...i love soda bread.
And the laver bread that the welsh have is lovely as well.
I am proud to say i have eaten my way around the uk when it comes to fry ups :)

Also, Brown Sauce. At least HP, ideally something fancier.

Beans all day long.

Black pudding is a must, i am always disappointed when I don't get it.

Hash browns can have a place too, not gonna get too upset though.

100% this. Cook them for a good 15 mins to get them nice and mushy.

The only essentials are:

High quality sausages
Scrambled Eggs
Decent tomato ketchup

Ideal additions to this:

Bacon
Hash Browns or Fried potatoes
Baked Beans (but in a separate pot)
Toast with a lot of butter

Anything else is a bit meh and takes up space on the plate

Agreed. Turn that watery sauce into a thicker paste. Then add a lump of butter.

No Beans...Hate them. They are Satan's Semen as far as I'm concerned.
There are not many things I don't or won't eat, but they are one of them for sure.
