Anyone here got much smart home tech?

I don't have anything yet but thinking of getting some Phillips Hue lights, I noticed Ikea do them too but not sure how they compare.
want to get some kind of sonos set up too and a home cloud for saving off photos from our phones etc.

be careful with the family photo sharing if you have mates that send inappropriate photos and videos.
i have a tendancy to send videos to my pals daily and one of my mates has his photos on auto save to his cloud. 2 weeks back him and his family just returned from holiday and were showing his aunt the holiday snaps on their home pc when his aunt was scrolling through and see his collection of videos that i had sent him and screamed (plenty in the tank sir! )

We have had Sonos and a Spotify account for a few years now. Work very well together and haven't bought a CD for years. The Sonos works flawlessly as well, never had a single connection/dropout issue.

my mate moans every time the app gets updated and it worries me that if they dropped support for it one day or went bust would the speakers be worthless? he said they basically don't work without the app, no inputs, not Bluetooth etc?

As well as using it with music subscription accounts (Spotify, Amazon Music etc) you can also use them with music stored on a PC.

But I really can't foresee why they would ever withdraw support for something that's an integral part of their offering. And sure, they could potentially go under, but that's a risk with any technology you buy into...

Ive got hive its outstanding

works well

we put the heating set to 18 all year round and then in the winter put it on in evening using hive

----

on the smart home subject we have a WD my cloud set up.. 4 TB but its 2 x 2 tb drives so its a double back up of all photos and data from our mobiles / anything else we need so we dont loose pics of the little one

access anywhere in world from an app

costly to set up but better than having cloud payments... one off cost

what are the thoughts of Hive v Nest?
I prefer the look of the Hive, which I think would also make an amazing music controller fwiw

Ive got hive installed. - Heating only as the plugs are maga bucks Its not a bad piece of kit, I'm pretty sure I've seen ads offering it as a subscription - Not sure its worth a tenner a month.

Ive got apple Tv for streaming from mac upstairs to Apple TV. - Works well.

Got Apple's airport express connected to amps in the kitchen and living room so I can send audio to either or both rooms. - It works really well but has been redundant since I got a Bose Minilink.

make sure your home doesn't get too smart or it will leave you locked outside at some point.

Ben...

a smart house would bypass such an inadequate security system, denying me access regardless of my fingerprints.

a less smart but more aggressive house could just deprive me of me finger. or fingers, just to be sure.
