Yes but they were not portrayed as a homosexual couple, more a comedic couple and them sleeping in the same bed was part of the cosy joke.
However you are correct in some respects, nudity and the like were much more prevalent on TV then they are now. You could hardly watch a Play for the Day without some willing waif get her knockers out.
So nudity was fine, but any form of homosexuality was largely kept away from us.
Now it seems to have gone in the opposite direction.

Personally I've never been to a country so hypersensitive to anything as Australia

My god they love a rule, you really notice there's regulations over everything.

Was actually chatting to an aussie over the weekend who was totally shocked over all the fireworks displays, apparently over there you aren't allowed to have fireworks unless it's an organised council display etc.

Says it all...

Think the whole political correctness stems from the way the aboriginals were treated

I know the police over there are draconian, especially to bikers. Some of the laws of association over there are like something out of the Gestapo handbook.

^^^ looking good post-op HD

I think Stephen Fry sums up my thinking on this in an infamous interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgcVFFapXUk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Infantilism is the death of a mature civic culture. I don't think kids or students are taught how to engage in debates properly and are, instead, drawn into a world of partial (or dubious) information and hyperbolic language. Plenty of adults have sucked that up too.

I am finding it increasingly common that debates quickly transition into a black and white world and 'who side are you on' type posturing, be that on football, politics, etc., and I often get the impression that conversations are had to seek validation rather than to discuss a topic, although I am currently not thinking about anyone in particular over in the GD forum who won't bend or shut up

You've got to keep them in line somehow, relax the rules and they'd run amok.

I started a thread on a couple of Italian teams who had been winding each other up over Ann Frank but it got deleted - I'd been out all day only to find the thread I'd started deleted completely , what happened ??

I wrote to UTJ but never got a reply - I'm assuming it caused some bother or other ?

Apologies if it did .

The gender stuff is getting a bit out of hand... stores not having "girls & boys" clothes, unisex changing rooms and not being able to use the term pregnant woman just some of the latest nonsense in the news...

All not to offend the smallest of minorities... just madness

Ain't got a clue , I started a thread in good faith in the morning , had to take our son to Portree for the day , by the time I got back it was deleted - I wrote to UTJ asking for an explanation proffering my apologies if it had offended anyone but I never got a reply - I assume he hasn't read it .
So I come on here asking for an explanation and get nothing .
I assume it got out of hand and was deleted .
Shame , as I thought it at least relevant .
Ah well , that'll teach me to start a thread , I'll leave it to someone else as per usual frm now on .

Weren't they the first "couple" ever shown in bed together on British tv? Even married couples couldn't be shown like that, lest they offend the original generation snowflake. Then again, surely the real snowflakes were the Victorians, clutching their pearls at the slightest allusion to sexuality.

For people who think young people are all very easily offended, I suggest you watch a couple of episodes of Family Guy, which pretty much everyone watches...

The thing is, aren't both sides of these debates "sensitive and offended" if things don't go their way? I don't really care whether John Lewis have signs for girls' and boys' clothes, in fact I doubt I would even notice.

I'm offended by the quality of modern day journalism .

I really should apply for a job as a Guardian Journalist as my spelling and grammar are on a higher level than that of Robert Booth's e.g. ' Dance troop ' . :)
