My first sticker collection was world cup '78, still looking for Roberto Rivelino. No-one had him,. there must have been just four in the country.

Re: Football Sticker stories

My first sticker collection was España '82. It was the sticker collection which drove my interest in the tournament rather than the other way around; that World Cup was where I got into watching football. My only pre-Spain82 memories of watching any football were Spurs' back-to-back FA Cup wins in '81 and '82. I don't recall the 1980 FA Cup at all. FFS.

Anyway, I completed España '82 and Mexico '86. In fact I still had my España '82 book right up until a couple of years ago, when I sold it on eBay for £120 (if I hadn't filled in all the results and group placings back in the day in my 10yr-old childish scrawl - complete with a bunch of mistakes I'd crossed out - I'd have got a few bob more than that).
