2018 Goals

Postby DrVenk on Wed Jan 03, 2018 2:27 pm

Happy new year fellow KUMBERs.

I'm not big on New Year resolutions, but this year I am using it as an excuse to sort the following out:

1. Physical health - my muscle mass has dwindled. I am not into getting ripped for posing purposes, but I've increasingly found some DIY work difficult, more muscles being pulled (pulled a hamstring by getting up too quickly ffs), and probably a decline in Testosterone levels making me less focused. I need to hit the gym and bulk a little and I definitely need to do more cardio.

2. Cut down (or cut out) the hash/weed use - has been used for self medicating with insomnia, but I've been using that as an excuse for too long. Increasingly turning down social opportunities to get blazed. This has to stop.

3. Play more golf. I used to be excellent (8 handicap by 13; nearly playing off scratch by 16; then booze, drugs, and sex kicked in). The minute I realised I was no longer really good at the game, I quit it. Silly really. I need to do more things just because they are fun and social.

4. Move back to the Eastend. Difficult, but for work, social, and footballing reasons (obviously) I want to make it happen.

Any goals/aims to achieve this year?

My fitness goal for 2017 was to run 1000 miles in the calendar year.
I managed 988.

My fitness goal for 2018 is to run 1000 miles in the calendar year.

To get back to the level of running I was at before. Up to 10K, so getting there. I have a half marathon in March.

STOP PRESS. Strava has potentially been misrepresenting how far I run. I do the same commute on my bike and on foot, and Strava consistently records my rides as 10.6km vs 9.6km when I run. MapMyRun suggests it's the longer distance, so I might actually have done quite a few more miles than originally thought.

Update to follow...

If true, then PARTY TIME!

Actually, means I need a new goal for 2018. Any suggestions?

Try to eat your body weight in crisps?

Probably averages out somewhere between 6 or 7 multipack bags of crisps a day.

That's not a challenge, that's just normal life.

I f*cking love crisps, me.

My resolution should have been to eat fewer crisps.

But I won't, so I'm not going to bother trying.

Unless on holiday, abroad, over the summer, I will be booze-free for 2018.

Maybe I should re-lay my BBQ patio. Not as flat as I'd like. And re-waterproof the shed.

As the body decomposes, gas builds up under the flag stones and causes the patio to 'crown' ...but i guess you knew that already :)

I put plenty of puncture holes in the body, as per the instruction manual I downloaded off the web, so it can't be that.

That's 41 metres a day.

Or do you mean in one go?

Cheers, mate. This my third year, in that I go sober on an even year and drink on an odd one.

This is my third foray into it. The longer I go, the easier it is.

And the sleep. My god, the sleep is the best reason for it.
