Cheap wool suits

Postby DasNutNock on Thu Feb 08, 2018 8:57 am

Need a black suit for a funeral next week. Wear smarts infrequently, so don’t want to spend much, but would prefer to avoid buying one made from polyester. Any suggestions?

"Here's a little bit of advice, you're quite welcome, it is free:

Honestly mate, wearing a half decent suit is one of life's great pleasures. You'll look the nuts, you'll feel like a dog with two dicks, the Milf population will be frothing. Don't deny yourself, do the right thing, just this once.

And then find more reasons to be cheerful by wearing it.

Got any outlets near you, they usually have a few places you can pick up decent quality suits at a good price just because they are last years 'line' or whatever. I got a nice Jaeger one last year for a wedding in their outlet for under half price.

It's for a funeral. I have some other nice suits I wear for weddings and interviews, but I need a plain black one.

Not a bad idea, actually, but the closest outlets to me are Swindon & Pompey, both of which are a bit of a pain to get to. Might end up taking a sunday morning trip to one, though.

Ah ok, as you were.

It's not absolutely necessary to wear black to a funeral though, just so long as you wear something sober. Unless it's a made man.

My allocated funeral suit is M&S and hopefully stays in the wardrobe as long as possible. Having said that I bloody love the cut of it... more than any I wear to work!

Looked at that one earlier, as it goes. Still more than what I'd like to pay, though, because what I really like to pay for things is f*ck all.

RARS suggested ebay & TKMaxx and he may be onto something there. Going to have a scoot round at the weekend, there's a Next in Woking, too, so might end up there as well.

Some of the guys in your office will be so 'swole' soon they will have to buy bigger suits? maybe they will give their old ones away?

Do you know anyone that's passed away recently? Maybe they've got one that they won't want any more.

They dress like a bunch of Apprentice rejects. Shiny blue suits, mostly.

Freeport Braintree ( £250) or Matalan Chelmsford £25. Pardon?

You don't want to pay £85? Let me rewrite my earlier post:

£85 for the jacket + £45 for the strides = £130. If I'm paying that for a wool blend suit, I'd rather go to M&S, who have better stock management.

Yeah, I'd certainly go to M+S over Next any day, especially as I have reached a certain age..

Old enough to not want to dress like a twat.

M+S have some outlet stores too.

I do Next for suits basically because they fit better . Marks are always too short in the leg for me.
As for stock, I order online and either pick it up the next day or have it delivered.
Taking stuff back is easy.

Having said all of the above, I can't actually remember the last time I bought a suit.
Funeral this week I just wore black shoes and black trousers, white shirt, black tie, really thick jumper and a coat. I was about the most appropriately dressed person there, nobody bothers much it seems anymore.
Which is a shame in my view.
