Companies You Won't Use (if you can help it)

Postby EastBrisHammer on Fri Feb 09, 2018 11:41 am

I made a post in the broadband issue thread and it got me thinking about the companies that I try to avoid because of bad customer service or complete ineptitude.

I won't use National Express Coaches after I got to the coach station late once and the bloke wouldn't let me get on the coach. I had to travel into Bristol city centre to catch the coach to London so I gave myself an hour and a half to get there with the idea of getting some breakfast in Bristol too. Bus into Bristol usually takes about 30 mins. Anyway after waiting for over thirty minutes for a bus (three buses never turned up) I proceeded to sit on a slowest bus journey into town I have ever experienced. I got to the coach station with nine minutes to spare but apparently you are supposed to be on the coach ten minutes prior to departure. I showed the man my ticket and he said "sorry mate too late". I tried to explain but he told me it wasn't his problem. I spoke to his colleague who apologised but said he didn't make the rules. To make matters worse the coach departed ten minutes late and I would have to purchase another ticket for the next coach. I wasn't particularly well off in those days and I begrudged paying again.

Anyway, let's hear your stories.

After seeing what VW have been up to, I very much doubt I'll ever buy another VAG motor. I'd probably extend that to the entire German car industry, who are no doubt all up to the same nasty tricks.

BT lost me as a customer when they refused to match a "new customer" rate when I went to renew my BB last year.

Beyond that, I'm too much of a tightwad to rule anything out.

IKEA

In my experience, their stuff tends to fall apart very quickly.

I'm also quite brand loyal, I've had a Sony phone for years and won't go to anything else now. Also, Cannondale bikes - on to my 3rd. Excellent pieces of kit.

British Airways

They stitched me up on a Group booking last year when they stopped doing free food and drink on short haul flights. 10 of us booked and paid on the basis of the offer, then they changed the offer and the only compo they offered was a £5 voucher if each person personally requested it.

Given the cost of buying a drink and sandwich (the minimum equivalent of what they used to offer) was around £15 (£7.50 both ways) they did us as a party for £100, in fact more as no-one personally claimed as it was a pain in the arse process.

And their sole reason was, it's company policy.

****wits!

I used to be a happy Co-operative Bank customer until I got married and made the simple request to change my current account to a joint account. It turned out their process was more complicated than designing and building a Large Hadron Collider. So I moved to Santander.

Scottish Power...they insisted I have two electricity meters when I clearly didn't. The ****wit on the phone even asked "Are sure there isn't a part of your house that is rented out and they have a separate meter?" I suggested that maybe a meter had been changed and the old one not taken off the list...the reply "that would show up on our records."
