Virgin Media

Had their most expensive Broadband Fibreoptic package, in a 3 bedroom flat in London. The router was in the living room, and the wireless signal was so bad it couldn't be picked up in the bedrooms.

The internet was also constantly down, which was a pain as I often work from home.

The worst bit was, when I moved house, I was happy to take Virgin with me, as I appreciated I was in the middle of a contract. However, they didn't serve my new address (which was only located in South London, not in the Scottish Highlands), and therefore charged me something like £180 for having to terminate the contact early.

Yes, their wireless hubs have an extremely poor wireless signal. You can plug them into another wireless hub, and force them into modem mode, so their box purely handles the fibre connection, and your other hub does everything else. A bit of a faff, but you'll get much better results - such as VPN clients, attaching and mounting USB storage etc.

Virgin Mobile. I've never been so angry with a company as I was with them back in mid-2015. Long story in short-ish (without expletives) was:

Phone broke 2 weeks into a 2 year contract. No probs, they said, send it back and we will fix it. So I sent it back to them, then they charged me £79 to fix it, despite the damage being a known fault of the phone and nothing that I had done. I relented and paid the money, even though I had accidental damage cover. The phone arrives back 3 days later still broken. I go a bit mental at them about it, they send me another one of their self-addressed phone repair bags. I send the phone back again. They take another £79 without my permission. I contact them and go mental. They send the phone back to me still broken. I spend a week on hold, being sworn at, being hung up on, etc, by their customer service (term used lightly) department, until I finally am allowed the privilege of having my £158 back and the cancellation of the remaining 17 months of my contract.
2 weeks later, they send me a legal letter threatening to take me to court for cancelling my direct debit (I didn't trust them!) after my contract was ended in writing. I FWD the string of conversation emails to the CEO office. Case was quickly dropped after I told them that I was going to take the story to every single media outlet going.
Horrible organisation. I hope Richard Branson suffers from severe piles and tapeworm for the rest of his no-good, NHS-raping days. C**t.

Further to my admittedly dysfunctionally obsessive hatred of the advertising industry and my futile stand against it...

Don't bank with Nationwide but had toyed with the idea of working for them at one point on a recommendation... but THAT advert campaign with the 2 'singing sisters'. No words suffice.

And again, would rather have my passport permanently revoked than book anything with 'TUI' thanks to that advert they show amidst The Simpsons.

West Ham London as well, still, of course.

I shop in Asda weekly and have done for eighteen months. They’re fine. Pizza bar, butchers etc. Good branch near me.

I bought :
Hot cross buns.....revolting
Sliced ham........tasteless
Bread flour..........dust

If you're on a budget (and if you aren't) for quality, though not unlimited choice,Lidl is 100X better.

Sun Life of Canada.

I had some old savings plans running with a company that SLOC took over. Ever since then the service and information supplied has been terrible. So much so that I cancelled the two remaining policies and cashed them in.

They sent the documents to me to close the account and sign off on where the money should be sent. This included certain security and identity details which I provided.

One week later I received a phone call saying that they need more information since I live abroad. Well, surely they knew that when they posted the previous letter?

Anyway, one of the security questions, and I kid you not, was 'what telephone number do we have on file for you?'

'Erm, not sure about your filing or database management, but I'm sort of guessing it might be the one you're calling me on now?'

I try my very hardest (and 99.9% of the time I am successful) in not using them mainly down to them (in my mind) being virtually responsible for the explosion of interest in Halloween in this country.

British Airways - still looking for a refund and full expenses of a flight that was cancelled in December. And that's before they have gone 180 degrees on there view of EU compensation.

Applied for £1.1k in total, 3 months later i have received £300 (This is for 2 passengers). That doesn't even cover the cost of the cancelled flight.

Airlines that aren't BA. I'm sure they're as sh*te as the rest of them, but my mate works for them and has stuck me in Business 3 times and First once. And I'm about to beg for another upgrade off him for an unexpected work trip to NY.

It was the day the five pound notes changed. I tried to pay for a £4.50 magazine with an "old" fiver and the bloke refused to take it, gave me a load of old pony about it not being legal tender. I was in a sarcastic sort of mood and pointed out to him that his lack of customer skills explained why he, as a middle aged man, worked at W.H.Smiths trying to promote family sized bars of Fruit & Nut to the obese (it may have been Dairy Milk that day but I digress).

I said fine and took my fiver and magazine to the automatic till as I knew that they would not have upgraded the note collector yet and the fella dived past me and refused to let me use the machine. By now I was furious and as well as calling him every see you next Tuesday under the sun I also asked him if he would like to continue the discussion in the street.

With this he pressed an alarm and I was escorted off the premises. I work nearby and the manager of the store came into my shop (I still accepted fivers btw) and she told me that they expect staff to be treated with respect and as such my business was no longer wanted by her or any other branch of W.H.Smith

The irony of it all is that we use W.H.Smith as a wholesaler and distributor so I have to talk to them and use them daily. Maybe they will stop deliveries if they find out my shady past :D

Sorry to resurrect this, but the irritation thread isn't strong enough.

What the **** is going on at Barclay's bank.?

1) They reduce the opening hours of this town's branch , to 10 - 3, (useless for anyone who works).
2) They close down the sodding branch altogether, have to travel 17 miles to put cash on Barclaycard.
3) Go to do the above at main Kidderminster branch, they've replaced all customer service with 7 state of the art machines. These are so complex 4 staff members have to stand at said machines to do all the stuff for each customer. In 20 minutes NOT ONE customer was capable of using the things.(Now I accept I am talking about Kidderminster, but FWIW (sod all) I've got a ******* degree).
I accept that a lot bank on line, but a hell of a lot of small businesses need branches. I really believe that Barclay's are looking to get out of this kind of banking.
I signed up with the TSB on the way home.

Unfortunately Natwest the same.

They have closed so many branches in Brighton it is a joke. The one near me is going soon, many days I go past there and the queue is up to the door, yet they are closing it.

After the closed my local one I wrote one of the few complaint letters of my life saying how they were shafting their customers. Got back some standard guff about how we can now use post offices and their lovely automated machines in so many places.

*****.

Same with Lloyd’s here - replaced the counter service with some cash machines and a single member of staff who stares at her phone and gets the ****hole if you ask her a question. Complained to them and they stuck £25 in my kid’s account, but we’re still leaving.

We don't even have a bank branch in our town, they've all closed.

The nearest bank is Lloyds which is 4 miles away, which is no ****ing good as I am with Santander, and the closest one of those is 9 miles away.

Cleverly the Branch Locator gives the distance as the crow flies and says it's 5 miles, lying bastards!

Still at least they've updated their logo to make them more visible
