I was baptised in the church on the right - spent most of my childhood and youth on the council estate that was built just to the left, out of shot.

Hammerdivine, your first link. I worked in Spitalfields market with my Dad back in 1974-1975. Dino's cafe, I would get breakfast there every morning, usually marmalade on toast, or sausage sandwiches, around 6.30am (we started around 3.30am-4.00am. Dino's was owned by a Greek guy named Peter if I remember correctly, boy did he work hard. Great memories, seems like a different life ago and yet the time has gone by so fast, scary fast.

Ta CH (been a while since I said that!)

There's a FB page called 'Growing Up in the East End of London' which is full of this stuff. Kind of aimed at old fogies (like me) but it's fascinating at times.

If it was the 60's my late mother worked as a cleaner in loads of places, she must have cleaned most of the East End so she would be responsible for that.

We moved back to Ireland in the early 70's, the place looks like it hasn't been cleaned since :)

Even I’ve seen changes having visited after leaving in the summer of 2016.

Does anyone know what happened with The Denmark? I hear new owners were due in last month.

One of my dad's sisters worked in The Bricklayers.

There used to be a pokey little sweet shop on the corner opposite which was a stop off on the way to the saturday morning cinema at Mile End ABC (now Genesis).

A friend who went to my University wrote this book: 'Vanishing East End'. West Ham season ticket holder too. Would highly recommend it:
