Funnily enough that was the main thing I remember about that Talbot.

Dad learned to drive when I was six. The first car we had was a dark green 1962 Triumph Herald - a whopping 40hp and no syncromesh on first gear . . . .

The smell inside was fabulous, a mixture of old leather, walnut dashboard, and oil!

First car I can remember was the Austin Cambridge. My Dad's was cream with a maroon stripe. After this I remember a Ford Zephyr and a Ford Corsair followed by an Austin 1800 which I started my first driving lessons in.

An Austin A30, with no safety belts - a limitation we experienced to our cost when some ****wit pulled out in front of us, sending my dad into the steering wheel and me head first into the foot-well (I was about 6 at the time). Both of us saved from more serious injury by the A30s inability to get above about 7 mph.

Dad had one of these. I had such fond memories of it so I got one myself, just more modern. :D

1973 Mk 1 Escort.

Broke down on my first journey, and did so frequently after as well. I was quite glad when I wrote it off.

I remember my parents having a Vauxhall 101 estate, huge tank without power steering

Though my mum also had a moggy minor.
