Pie & Mash etiquette

Postby Up the Junction on Thu Mar 08, 2018 8:17 pm

Your answers please:

1. Do you eat your pies face up, or upside down?

2. Do you eat with a knife and fork or a fork and spoon?

3. The mash: ice cream scoops or scraped on the side?

4. Accompanying drink: mug of tea, orange squash or something else?

5. Do you take your plate back to the counter upon leaving?

Up - but as served, not requested

knife and spoon

scrape

tea

no, because they take it away the plate whilst the tea is cooling

bonus ball: chili vinegar, of course.

(I have eaten it all over, but, in the last few years, it's always been for lunch at one particular place)

1. Do you eat your pies face up, or upside down? Face up.

2. Do you eat with a knife and fork or a knife and spoon? Knife and fork. Don't need a spoon as mash my mash into the liquor so the plate is pretty much bone dry once I've done. (Surprised you never asked gravy or liquor) so.

3. The mash: ice cream scoops or scraped on the side? Seeing as you're asking - scoops please boss.

4. Accompanying drink: mug of tea, orange squash or something else? Tea. Anything else would be wrong.

5. Do you take your plate back to the counter upon leaving? Yes, when it's not too rammed which my shop of choice (Goddards in Greenwich) can often be. [/color]

Up, always up, for gods sake man. I'm not a palestine.
2. Do you eat with a knife and fork or a knife and spoon?
K & F.
3. The mash: ice cream scoops or scraped on the side?
Never been offered the choice. Scoops would be in a better class of place. Or an ice cream parlour.
4. Accompanying drink: mug of tea, orange squash or something else?
Tea would go well.
5. Do you take your plate back to the counter upon leaving?
Yes, if they're good looking. The staff not the plates.

What's the sauce/gravy? Looks like a lot of grease. What am I looking at here?

Green gravy = 'Liquor' - made from stewed eel water, parsley & another secret substance.
This in the picture has had a solution of acetic acid added on top. Hopefully the non-brewed type.

Liquor. A parsley based source of nutrients, delight and stubbornness

Hmmm. I'm game. Eels are tasty. Just not sure about the jellied version, but sauce sounds good.

I realise I'm in danger of being banned for saying this but...

I love pies, I love mash, but that plate pictured doesn't look very appetising to me.

I once worked with a bloke who bought Pie and Mash from Kelly's down Bethnal Green Road - and ate it dry.

No liquor (which should be impermeable and always have vinegar floating about in it - like oil on the water)

He was from oop Norf.

I love pies. And mash.

But the green **** can **** off back to Hades where it comes from.

I would never eat a pie with a spoon. Not unless some American had already cut all my food up for me.
