I take the Cherry Active capsules, they are much cheaper on Amazon than at Holland and Barrett

Bubbles1966, hope you never get it at all mate, it really is a nightmare when it becomes long lasting and chronic as mine has now become. Fingers crossed (no pun intended)

Someone went to my nearest Holland & B yesterday to get me some of the Cherry Capsules but they had none in stock.

I found a site call "Just Vitimins" they were selling them and the reviews were all very very positive, so I brought them from there. 60 caps for just under a tenner. Should arrive in the next few days.

Today is the first time in 3 weeks the pain has started to ease off.

I take these as well

Had 2 or 3 attacks before I started taking these and have only had one since, which I think was caused by the fact that I was taking antibiotics for a chest infection.

Brothernero ,

I know exactly what you're going through , mate - before the sepsis struck in December 2012 I was taking 3 diclofenacs per day having had 3 discs operated on and suffering from very bad attacks of gout - I had 2 attacks when the gout was in every joint - ankle , knee , hip , wrists , elbows - I couldn't even turn over in bed - I had it so bad in both knees I had to come downstairs on my bum - the pain as you well know is pure agony . Naproxen didn't work , the only medicine that got rid of it was colchicine but you have to take 3 per day for 3-5 days .
After I got out of Intensive Care in 2013 the Doctors took away my blood pressure pills and the diclofenac [ the diclofenac was eating into my kidney ] .

I gave up using salt , lost weight and began taking allopurinol - In 5 years I have had one attack of gout when my left elbow swelled up like a balloon , colchicine did the trick .

Do NOT eat oranges , pineapples or the usual sardines , mackerel , oily fish etc - eat white fish and a little chicken - drink lots of water but NOT squash - don't drink ANY carbonated drinks other than water - Do TAKE Allopurinol - take 100mg in the morning and 100mg in the afternoon - Stick with Allopurinol for the rest of your life , only stop taking it if you get an attack of gout as it worsens the attack , then take colchicine .

Currently into the second day of an attack , first in about 18 months , I have stopped the Purinal tablets for a week , wont be doing that again ,but I find Colchine no use whatsoever.
The worst bit for me is the having to crawl down to the bathroom (Im front bedroom , its a the back of the kitchen....mucho fun) , which means Im supposed to drink loads t flush the crystals out , and constanly wanting to pee.

TOMOS & East_Ham

Going to stop taking Colchine, it has never worked for me and just gives me stomach pains.

I am going to stick with Diclofenac, as they still seems to be the only medicine that has any effect. I have not taking any Allopurinol for about a year now, as my Gout Specialist advised me to stop taking them. But I am going to ask to see a new specialist and if I do then I want to see what they have to say.

I have started taking the Cherry Capsules as mentioned above. Fingers crossed they help.

Have already cut way back on red meats and I hardly ever have fish anyway. Will try and cut down on Chicken, but have always been told that Chicken has no effect on gout and is safe. I don't drink or Smoke so no issues there.

I try and drink plenty of Squash and Water and have also cut back on the old Fizzy drinks.

I have had that situation where you have to go downstairs via your bum more times than I care to remember, or had to crawl/use a walking frame to get to the bathroom. Pain has been so bad at times (like it has been of late) that I have been pretty much bed bound and screaming in agony.

I would not wish gout on my worse Enemy. (Thankfully I have none of them that I know of, lol)

Are you on Allipuronol tablets daily if so what strength ? I was on 300mg a day and still having terrible pain, the quack upped me to 900mg a day a year ago and I have been fine ever since. It isn't an exact science, I have 2 friends who are on 1500mg a day and 2000mg a day respectively and have had their dosage upped and upped to counter their pain thresholds. If your not at that level yet upping the daily Allipuronol doseage may give you a bit of leeway.

At present I am not taking any Allipuronol at all as advised by my Specialist. But before that It varied, I was on one 300mg tablet a day for many years, but there were times when I was told to take two 300mg tables a day. Depending on what Doctor I was seeing, they kept changing it.

I don't have any faith in my latest Gout Specialist so am going to try and see If I can see someone else.

I suffered badly from gout for so many years I could never envisage it getting better but for some reason it has got much better , so much better it doesn't happen any more hardly . In fact last week I ran out of allopurinol for 5 days but nothing happened .

At its worst [ te gout ] I was drinking very heavily so it's strange to hear that your diet is good and you don't drink any alcohol .

Cut out the squash for two months and see what happens .

Why a Gout Specialis would advise you not to take allopurinol I wouldn't know , I just know that I refused to take it for years and I suffered badly for years , I would definitely seek a second opinion .

And the best of luck , mate , Gout is so painful I'm surprised it has never been used as a weapon of torture ! :)
