Best Drive ever ?

Postby Vince on Thu Jul 26, 2018 3:45 pm

On Sunday I drove the Tail of the Dragon which runs from North Carolina to Tennessee in the Smoky Mountains, voted # 1 motorcycle and sports car road in the States.
318 curves in 11 miles, and before that you had to drive several miles through the mountains which was spectacular.
Got me thinking, what amazing roads have my fellow Kumbers been on that was memorable ?

The A127 from Basildon to Southend is quite an epic journey.

I drove illegally in Abu Dhabi for a few days that was pretty exhilarating.

I've done the PCH from Laguna Niguel to Santa Barbara. Malibu's a lovely stretch. Was looking at wedding venues when we did it, in a curious link to my previous post.

The A39. [url]https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/A39_road/url" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;]

The Atlantic Road.

Got lost on the way to Devon. My Porlock Hill was the most scary experience driving ever

The road A300 once through the Russian - Kazakh border the sky opens up, Never seen such a big sky before or since , and that includes driving along some of the American desert roads , This is also the area where Golden Eagles are just sat on the side of the roads

+another 1 for this. And + another one minus the convertible.

Did it at Xmas from Carmel down to The Big Sur, and it is an absolutely beautiful drive. I am not a petrolhead by any stretch of the imagination but this was one wonderful drive and I can now understand the enjoyment of driving these types of routes rather than being able to appreciate the view just as a passenger. Due to the road collapsing last year we had to head inland and then get back on it at Cambria.

Other good drives ... Te Anu to Milford Sound in New Zealand, and Gansey Bay on the Castletown to Port St Mary road on the Isle of Man

320 yards down the right hand side of the fairway on the 4th last Saturday. Left me an easy wedge in to the green.
