TBH, I think there'd be the same reaction to booze, under the same circumstances.

Also cars. Can you imagine trying to make them legal in 2019, if they weren't already?

But how would children get to school without cars?

Search me. Where I'm from, it's mandatory to drive your kids to school, even if you live within 200m of the gates.

Forget that, how would a modern secular democracy function without alcohol?

I actually came across the origins of this recently. A friend of mine used the term in an article she wrote and got a load of flack from 'woke' American types on Twitter for using the term.

The cakewalk was a pre-Civil War dance originally performed by slaves on plantation grounds. The uniquely American dance was first known as the "prize walk"; the prize was an elaborately decorated cake. Hence, "prize walk" is the original source for the phrases "takes the cake" and "cakewalk."

Hubble`s pictures of the Triangulum galaxy, which is 3 million light years away. That`s 3 million multiplied by approx. 6 trillion miles. How the hell can something be so far away, and how can we manage to see it, just blows my mind. What an awesome bit of kit that is.

:D Try living in my house, where you have to stand in just the right spot, arm out like Wayne Hennessy, to get anything, then the kids using every last ounce of wifi capability, then complaining that the signals not good enough!

HST is amazing, but it's also worth looking for images of the same galaxies in the uv and infrared (with instruments like galex and spitzer). some will look very different!

for a simple, Galactic nebula, the helix:

warp, is the optical from real 'physical' optics? I mean traditional lenses, or some form of computer processed photosensor data?

And yes, amazing images.

all the cool images are colour coded, different images taken with different filters, then stacked together with different colour scales assigned to each image:

So even if you could travel at the speed of light, it would STILL take you 3 million years, to get there...
Yes, that is quite far...
