That there isn't a legal mandate for everyone on earth to stop working for 15 minutes on a friday afternoon to listen to My Morning Song by The Black Crowes.

Why veg that is getting close to it's sell by date is thrown away rather than given away.

Some Lidls, from 8-10 am, selling such fruit and veg, in mixed bags @ £1.50 for 5 kilos.
Pity so many have lost the habit of preserving, (maybe that should be some boring TV chef's new 'campaign').

2 reasons

(a) throwing it away is quicker - find a bin and put it in there, and
(b) if you make a gift of something, in law you are still in certain respects responsible for its condition. If somebody was ill or worse, after eating your charitable gift, you would be liable.

I'm shocked tbh. The place I go to to eat every other Sunday, takes veg from shops/supermarket on a Friday that will go out of date on a Saturday and they use it on a Sunday to feed people for free. I've talked to people at the gig - The People's Feast - and they have confirmed that the recipient or the provider have no responsibility if someone falls ill - and I'd like to mention no one has ever fell ill at one of their gigs.

Throwing it away may be quicker but in this age of PR and publicity, surly putting it to one one to be collected is a small price to pay for the positivity that could be generated?

Whose going to get ill from a potato that is out of sell by date by a day?

I hadn't realised that you had a specific place in mind; thought it was more a general question.

The example you give is for someone to buy/obtain the veg whilst still within its sell by date and then cook it, before [giving it away].

My answer was more general, so as to offer a likely explanation for why large places, such as supermarkets, wouldn't sell something that has reached its sell by date. Its just a question of risk management.

the recipient or the provider have no responsibility if someone falls ill

That's surprisingly wide in application, imo. It would be unlikely for responsibility/liability to arise, but, in certain circumstances, it could.

She was very polite (and gorgeous) but the stewardess on an Aarhus to Copenhagen flight asked me to wear my bucket hat or put it in the overhead locker.

Ryan Giggs was at Aarhus Airport too.
