Plus that's you knowing the difference between what you want & what you need, TOMoS.

My TV now dims the room lights when you start watching a movie, and undims if you pause or finish watching. When my knock-off Chinese zigbee rgbww lights and controller arrive and I install them behind my TV, they will also match the dominant colour onscreen. Not quite the full hue ambilight experience, but at a fraction of the price.

Don’t tell me you don’t/want need that in your lives.

Nah, all done via an app. My TV runs Android, so I have Kodi installed natively, as well as on a laptop, fire stick etc. There's a Hue add-in for Kodi, which is quite nicely done. You need a second file for Ambilight (matches a colour bulb to the screen), but again, isn't difficult.

So long as the device hosting Kodi is on the same LAN as your Hue Hub, the Kodi Hue add-in should find it.

Whenever I'm watching a film I use a voice-controlled device to dim the lights and make the tea .

' Jen , while your making tea switch off the lights will you , dear ? ' .

The Dad-Echo , every home should have one . :)
