Renault Clio - wrote it off rear-ending someone...
Skoda Fabia - boring, no central locking
Hyundai Coupe - was a dog when I bought it, sorted it out and loved it
Merc C220 Coupé - brand new as I worked for them, loved it
Merc SLK280 - loved it but totally impractical (best car I've driven, so planted)
Merc E350 Cabrio - loved it, so expensive to run
BMW 330i - great car to drive, but a bit dull after the last three

I do love cars...

Been driving for 25 years now. Here's the ones I've owned:

Austin Metro 1.0 - Never used to start in the morning, even in the summer. Decided one morning that it'd never start again.
Ford Escort XR3i - lovely car, failed emissions and that was that :(
Ford Escort 1.6 LX - Not great, not rubbish, timing belt went and the valves decided to leave the engine!
BMW 523i SE - Lovely car. Gearbox decided to escape on Christmas eve one year.
Audi A3 2.0 TFSI Sport - Nice car, a little on the small side though

Been driving nearly 30 years now. Never really a fan of cars, just anything that got me from A to B did me. Most of my cars were nicked (I did live in Tottenham) so it wasn't worth buying anything decent.

In over 20 years I've owned:

1.0 Polo '91
1.1 Punto '94
1.25 Fiesta '00
1.8VVC MG-F '98
2.0TDI Golf '06

I've had that Golf almost 10 years. I love cars and I like driving, but by Christ, my car ownership history is pretty f*cking tragic, all things concerned.

Must have been quite some transition in driving styles.

Don't you know it. I didn't need a big car anymore and wanted a bit of fun. Didn't keep it too long but was a laugh for a while.

Mate of mine has a green and white RD250 in bits in his garage. Refuses to sell and doesn't when or if he'll have the time to get it back together. Crying shame I reckon.

Lot safer than riding on the road......everyone goes the same way, and no cars!

Not for my mate. He was leading and a back marker stacked in front of him so he laid it down to miss and got hit by the guy in second. Sad times.

I have some good and some crap cars but the one I remember was an Austin Allegro bought in 1992.

My car had died and I wasn't sure where I would find the money for a replacement. A mate at work had owned the Allegro for years and loved it, he had bought a new car and been trying to sell the Allegro with no takers. Scrap yards would only offer him £20 and the car was actually in very good nick so a shame to scrap it. So he sold it to me for £20 on condition I looked after it and wouldn't scrap it unless it was written off, it even came with a full tank of petrol which was worth more than £20 at the time. I kept the car for over a year, never let us down and even took a family of four to Cornwall and North Wales. It sailed through its MOT and was actually a nice car to drive, no turn of speed but no bad habits at all. I only sold it because I wanted an estate car so we could carry more stuff. I found a member of the Allegro owners club (yes there is such a thing) and he paid me £125 for the car and reckoned he had only minor work to do in order to take the car to shows. I would like to think that it is still going and being taken to shows.

One I forgot about
Triumph Vitesse. Was given to me when I was 16. Was a runner and needed quite a bit of work, started to do it but soon got bored. Left in the garage for about a year and sold it for £100. On the plus side I did get to drive it up & down my road a few times. Along with my RS its one I wished I had kept.

Too bloody many in truth, some of them real money pits, a couple that only lasted a couple of months, one I flogged on with a busted head gasket, one that had 4 buckled wheels, one that I bought new and managed to ding within an hour.

These days it's a boring people carrier. Bloody hell do I miss driving a car that had something about it.

I'm not sure if I'm more shocked that you paid actual money for this, or that someone was so desperate that they nicked it. I mean, they could have done time. For nicking an Ital. A BROWN Ital. A 4 wheeled turd...

No offence

It was a hand-me-down from my sister who inherited it from my brother-in-law. It was at a time when I needed a car and this was free so I never paid a penny for it. It served me well until it was nicked.

One thing, I have never seen a car that was browner. I think Austin should at least get credit for creating a thing so brown ...
