Food & drink that you just can't bear

Postby Samba on Fri Dec 14, 2018 3:27 am

Parsnips - even roasted.
Turnips as well, come to that.
Marrow - what is the point?
Aubergine - see Marrow.
Mango - as a fizzy drink, fine but never the fruit.
Pears - love pear drops but then they don't taste like pears.
Kippers - nice flavour but I can't stand the 100's of tiny, little bones.
Most shellfish apart from prawns & shrimps.
Frogs legs - any other legs I can do, but not legs that look like legs.
Chicken feet - I don't want to eat anyone's feet.
Boiled eggs especially hard-boiled. 'Cool Hand Luke' is a difficult watch for me.
The white of fried eggs.
Artichoke - never tried it but it doesn't look nice.
Roast Chestnuts - I've really tried but no, don't like.
Okra - horrific & slimy.
Kidneys - just offal, I mean awful.
Heart & lungs, so yes, that's Haggis out.
Tongue - why the f**k would you want to eat somebody's tongue.
Brains - even if I was starving.
Olives - I've really tried to like these but they are just too cardboardy.

Southern Comfort - I could well imagine getting violently nauseous on this.
Beer that's called Bitter - the clue's in the name.

Can't do much except defy some of your dislikes. I'll enjoy just about anything, long as it's cooked right.

Understand what you mean about aubergines, I mean by themselves they're a whole lot of nothing but I've become used to having them fleshing up very tasty Chinese, Turkish and Iranian dishes. The herbs and spices do the trick.

Artichoke and Okra (Lady's Fingers): Kind of ditto the above BUT they are complete Johnny Fart-Pants fuel. Avoid. There's even an avant-garde Jazz composition by the late Lester Bowie called Okra Influence which is a succession of brass instruments making farting noises.

What I'm saying is if it's cooked right, it's ok. That's why I wonder how the Kebabish at the bottom of London Rd, Sheffield is still open 15 years after I discovered they were selling yesterday's newspapers disguised as Donner and Pitta bread.

Really can't think of anything I don't like.

Well ok, frog. Had it in China. What's the point of it?

I'll try any food once and there is not a lot I won't eat:
Aubergines, Courgettes, Houmus, Taramasalata, Gingerbread or ginger cake, jellied eels and finally ,lemon curd - relatively short list.

Drink wise, it's an even shorter list: Southern Comfort ( orrible smell), Pernod (too many teenage drunken escapades due to too many Pernod & Blacks!) and real ale, just don't like it. That's about it, everything else is fair game.

Can't abide the texture, taste and smell of any nut. Peanut butter and related products are banned from my house.

Olives....I've tried these and was expecting a lovely, grape-like sweet little critter. Spat it out, never tasted it again.

Oil....now I don't mind using oil in cooking but the taste of it drizzled on food is disgusting.

As for drinks....I don't like most spirits. I adore gin with it's various fruits and tonics but everything else is a no-no

And that's about it.

Pretty much everything on Samba's list apart from pears and fried egg whites!

Also most spirits, cant stand whiskey, gin, brandy, vodka etc. Only one I can drink is rum which my 7 year old thinks is cool because pirates drink rum!

The thought of jellied eels turns my stomach as well.

Can't imagine life without olives ( or any of the other fruit and veg on Samba's list) but I've never ate poultry ,or anything else that was once feathered. I've reared, killed, plucked, dressed and sold them, but eat one...nah.

Turnips as well, come to that.- lovely peppery taste , nice raw
Marrow - what is the point? good filler for soup , that's all , I never use it
Aubergine - see Marrow. One of my favourite foods , had some last night in a vegetarian moussaka
Mango - as a fizzy drink, fine but never the fruit.takes some getting used to because of its texture but it really is delicious
Pears - love pear drops but then they don't taste like pears.need to be ripe , delicious
Kippers - nice flavour but I can't stand the 100's of tiny, little bones.buy the tinned variety then , add philadelphia cheese to make a delicious pate on toast
Most shellfish apart from prawns & shrimps.I'm allergic to a lot of shellfish otherwise I'd eat them
Frogs legs - any other legs I can do, but not legs that look like legs.tastes like chicken but you need a lot of frogs for a good snack

Chicken feet - I don't want to eat anyone's feet.never tried them , don't look very appetising
Boiled eggs especially hard-boiled. 'Cool Hand Luke' is a difficult watch for me.prefer them soft boiled but I do use hard boiled eggs for ' eggs florentine ' - eggs with spinach and cheese sauce
The white of fried eggs.they're ok
Artichoke - never tried it but it doesn't look nice.never tried one but you only eat the heart

Roast Chestnuts - I've really tried but no, don't like.lovely in stuffing and very nice and sweet on their own
Okra - horrific & slimy.yeah , agreed
Kidneys - just offal, I mean awful.great with steak in a pie
Heart & lungs, so yes, that's Haggis out.haggis is delicious with neeps and tatties
Tongue - why the f**k would you want to eat somebody's tongue.tried it , don't like the taste

Brains - even if I was starving.never tried any
Olives - I've really tried to like these but they are just too cardboardy.agreed , they're shyte

Southern Comfort - I could well imagine getting violently nauseous on this.you're talking to a man who would drink anything at one time , bit perfumy

Beer that's called Bitter - the clue's in the name.
see above - put some lemonade in it , lovely drink

Christ on a bike , I would need around 6 pages to list all the foodstuffs I don't like, I am a proper fussy sod

strange enough though TOMoS Okra can be cracking if done right, for starters griddle the buggers to get rid of all the slimy bit, then stir fry in spices
If done wrong it is revolting

:D Looking back at that list, I did wonder!
I forgot all about jellied eels. Heresy I know but no, they look like chopped up snake to me.
Thank god I'm not famous & not about to get tempted to go on the next, 'I'm a Celebrity'. I'd really struggle with the eating tasks but it does make you think, how much money would it take to get you to eat one of the foods that you hate? Or kangaroo cock & balls?

Cheese, except for Mozzarella on a pizza [and that doesn't really count as cheese]
Mayonnaise/ coleslaw - nothing annoys me more than when a burger is not advertised with mayo and then comes with it and i have to scrape it off
Nuts of any kind, or things that taste like nuts i.e. peanut butter, peanut sauce
Brussel Sprouts
Mustard
Olives
Gin
Tequila
Prawns

I might pass on chicken feet and does anyone actually eat 'lungs'? Other than that, I'd wolf down the lot of it, save, naturally, for Southern Comfort, having once had a big old drink on it and waking up with it like glue on my mouth. Never again.

I pass on tarragon, personally, but generally eat anything, like a greedy fablo.

Edit: 'cardboardy' olives. Say what?? :?

the only thing mentioned so far that i dislike is okra. doesn't completely repulse me but it is a proper unpleasant taste.
i've been used to entrails since i was a kid so i'm not put off by internal organs, or squishy textures.

artichokes and aubergines are fantastic.

i don't particularly like oyster, i'll eat a couple if offered, but that's about it.

i won't drink any flavoured vodka, or that black vodka *****.

Anything off a seafood stall like cockle, whelks, prawns etc (A bit odd being Folkestone born & bred)
Baked beans (Odd i know)
Tomato Ketchup (even more odd)
Cheese sauce

I'm luckily not that much of a fussy eater. I struggle to think of any vegetable I don't like.

great shouts.
ketchup is a pointless, half arsed sweet and sour thing, baked beans are just raw beans chucked in that stuff, so both can **** off (i would eat them baked beans if i forgot to ask to take them out of my full english breakfast, but i really tend not to forget about it!)
