Footballers are tight

Postby djbubbles on Thu Jan 31, 2019 7:59 pm

Something is bugging me big time.
Footballers, clubs, donating to charities or funds. Basically i think they are skinflints. They get huge praise for donating, but the amounts they donate are pittance.
The Sala fund to continue the search was 260,000. Why didnt Cardiff donate all of it, or Nantes for that matter. That figure is nothing in todays day and age. Mbappe donated 30,000. Thats about a tenth of one week wages for him and the press creaming themselves over it. Thats equivelent to 50 quid to me or you. Maradona, Messi and others pleading with the English and French governments to carry on with the search. Pipe up with the dough or shut up.
Last year there was an earthquake in Mexico. Our little pea, the national hero donates 10 grand. Big deal when hes on 130 grand a week. Hes a great little fella.
Theres a few other examples aswell.
We all work hard for our money, and im sure we give what we can to charities, and im sick of hearing how great footballers and clubs are for giving **** all.

Bit harsh and judgemental methinks. They may be small proportionally, but they are still significant and effective amounts. Like we'd drop 10 or 20 quid. As for the publicity, I think that's using their names to encourage others to donate.

A certain player and his wife quite often knock tradespeople i.e. wait for the job to get done and then refuse to pay.

Ah here we go, another ''that's a drop in the ocean'' threads/comments.

£10,000 is still £10,000. Why should people who earn this much money all of a sudden give away proportions of their wealth. Do you think people earning these amounts wake up thinking, "Hmm, I fancy a new BMW today". It's a great donation regardless.

10 grand is not a big amount of money to them and you are right, i dont think they wake up thinking i'll buy a bmw today. Id say its more a ferrari or bentley, they wake up wanting to buy

How often do you donate £50 to charity?

To be fair, I reckon footballers and their close family must get tapped for every possible charity every single day. Something like one in three Premier League footballers go bankrupt within five years of retiring, so if anything, they should be even more frugal.

all relevant , I give up 5 days of my annual leave each year to the Royal British Legion in order to help with the poppy appeal , I also chuck at least 100 sovs in the kitty for them each year.

To be honest though , given that week off I would probably spend it getting pissed and doing bugger all , so its a win win both sides :D

Not that often but i have done on a few occasions.
My post isnt about me. Id miss 50 quid. Do you think Killian Mbappe missed the 30grand? Fair play to him but when hes on 300k every week. Its very sad about Sala, but why didnt Cardiff or Nantes or even both, pay the money to carry on the search? 130k each club. As i said, they are all tight. Yet they complain when the search was suspended.

I've heard that a former sticky keeper was extremely tight, hated parting with his cash.

It's all relative, we think footballers are rich but they are absolute paupers compared to the owners etc

We probably more we don't get paid at work when the company is making x, footballers moan they aren't getting paid x when the club makes x or the owner is worth 100 billion

I'd imagine some footballers are tight. And other are more generous. I'd be very surprised if every professional footballer had the same outlook in regards to charitable donations...it's almost like they are all individuals.

But pulling anyone for not giving enough is bad darts.

Unless you look to people like Drogba who gave all of his £3m fee from Pepsi to build a hospital in his home town which is on public record, he also gave his first ever football club £600k from signing on fees to maintain it.

Nearer to home our own Craig Bellamy donated £1.4m to build a non profit football academy in Sierra Leone.

I could go on but I think I have made my point and ****ed yours.

You also have players like our own Snoddy and Noble who give up a huge amount of their time (as well as money).
